What are the test items for EU EN71 certification of children's smart watches?

Date:2024-08-21 10:59:21 Classification :【question】 Visits:756
Children's smart watches need to ensure product safety due to their direct contact with children, so they need to undergo EN71 testing when exported to the EU. EN71 is the European Union's safety standard for toy products. It mainly includes tests on physical and mechanical properties, flammability, chemical properties, etc. to ensure that toys or similar products will not cause harm to children during use.

When children's smart watches undergo EN71 certification in the EU, the test items that need attention include:

1. Physical and mechanical performance testing (EN71-1): Evaluate the toy’s drop detection, small parts detection, sharp edge detection, tension detection, pressure detection, etc. to ensure that the toy will not cause harm to children during normal use.

2. Flammability test (EN71-2): Ensure that toy materials will not burn quickly and reduce the risk of fire.

3. Chemical performance test (EN71-3): Detect harmful chemicals that may be present in toys, such as heavy metals (aluminum, antimony, arsenic, etc.) and organotin compounds, to ensure that the content of these substances is below the safety limit.

4. Migration test of specific elements: Evaluate whether the migration amount of specific elements in toy materials meets the standard requirements, such as the update of the migration limit value of hexavalent chromium.

5. Testing of organic compounds: including testing methods and limitations of organotin compounds, sample preparation and extraction of organic compounds (EN71-10), and analysis methods of organic compounds (EN71-11).

6. Labeling and packaging requirements: Ensure that the label of the toy contains manufacturer information, age restrictions and necessary warnings. The packaging should comply with relevant regulations to avoid contamination of the toy.

7. Other related tests: Depending on the specific functions and design of the children's smart watch, other related tests such as electrical performance testing and electromagnetic radiation testing may be required to ensure the safety and reliability of the product.

Manufacturers should ensure that children’s smartwatches comply with all applicable EU safety standards and regulations during design and production to avoid product recalls or bans. At the same time, for emerging products such as children's smart watches, in addition to the traditional EN71 standard, it is also necessary to pay attention to standards and regulations in information security and personal privacy protection to fully ensure the safety of children.
