French food grade safety regulations are referred to as French DGCCRF. In addition to complying with the EU EC1935/2004 regulatory requirements, such products sold in France must also comply with local French regulatory requirements, including DGCCRF2004-64 and Décretno92-631. French regulations are not only applicable to Plastic and rubber products that come into contact with food have special requirements, and metal products also have special classifications and requirements. The French DGCCRF testing of plastic products mainly involves the following testing items:

1. Comprehensive migration testing

Purpose: To evaluate the total amount of all substances migrated out of plastic products under simulated food conditions to ensure that they do not contain ingredients that pose a risk to human health.

Why it matters: This is a key test to ensure plastics don’t release harmful substances when in contact with food.

2. Sensory test

Content: Evaluate the odor and taste of samples to ensure that the product does not change the sensory properties of the food, such as taste, smell, etc.

Purpose: To maintain the original taste and quality of food and avoid adverse sensory experiences caused by plastic materials.

3. Heavy metal dissolution test

Detection object: Mainly detects the content of heavy metals that may migrate from plastic materials to food, such as lead, cadmium, etc.

Purpose: To ensure the safety of food and avoid potential threats to human health caused by excessive heavy metals.

4. Testing of specific migrating substances

Test content: Test the migration amount of certain specific chemical substances, such as bisphenol A (BPA), etc.

Purpose: To ensure that the content of these specific chemicals is within a safe range to avoid adverse effects on human health.

5. Other special tests

Depending on the material: Different types of plastic products may require additional special testing. For example, PVC plastic products may need to be tested for vinyl chloride monomer; melamine resin products may need to be tested for formaldehyde dissolution; PE plastic products may need to be tested for peroxide value, chromium content, vanadium content, and zirconium content. wait.

Purpose: To ensure the safety and compliance of various plastic products under specific conditions.

6. Testing process

Fill out the application form: Provide basic information about the product and testing requirements.

Provide product information: including product instructions, material ingredient list, etc.

Send samples: Send the samples to be tested to the designated testing agency.

Conduct testing: Conduct testing as per the requirements and standards of DGCCRF.

Issuing a report: After the test is completed, the testing agency will issue a detailed test report stating the product’s test results and whether it meets relevant regulatory requirements.

In short, plastic products need to undergo rigorous testing on multiple items in the French DGCCRF inspection to ensure their safety and compliance when in contact with food. The implementation of these testing projects not only helps protect the health rights of consumers, but also helps enhance the competitiveness and credibility of products in the international market.
