What is the RoHS certification process for small household appliances?

Date:2025-02-21 10:53:20 Classification :【question】 Visits:
The following is a detailed process and key considerations for RoHS certification of small household appliances, organized in combination with EU regulatory requirements and practical operation guidelines:

I. Preparation before certification

1. Confirm product applicability

Small household appliances (such as vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, electric irons, etc.) belong to the category of electronic and electrical equipment clearly covered by the RoHS directive.

2. Material list organization

- Provide a complete list of parts (BOM table), including all components such as plastic housing, circuit boards, power cords, etc.

- The supplier information and chemical composition of each material must be marked.

II. Formal application process

1. Select a certification body

- Give priority to EU-approved third-party laboratories (such as Dezewei).

- Confirm whether the agency supports "whole machine split testing" or "single material testing".

2. Submit application materials

- Required documents:

- Product manual, circuit schematic

- Certification application form (including model, technical parameters)

- RoHS compliance statement provided by the supplier

- Sample requirements:

- 2-3 complete machines, or key components after disassembly (such as motors, plastic parts)

- Different materials need to be sent separately (5-10g for metal parts, 10-20g for plastic parts).

III. Testing and review stage

1. Hazardous substance detection

- Test method:

- X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) rapid screening of heavy metals

- Chemical analysis (ICP-OES/MS) accurately detects organic pollutants such as phthalates.

- Test substances: 10 restricted substances such as lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB).

2. Report and certificate issuance

- The laboratory issues a RoHS test report, which must include the test method, data and conclusion.

- After passing, the enterprise signs a Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and obtains CE mark authorization.

IV. Post-certification management

1. Labeling

- Affix the CE mark and RoHS compliance mark to the product or packaging.

2. Continuous compliance

- Each batch must be sampled before mass production to ensure consistency with the test sample.

- Pay attention to the update of the EU exemption list (such as special coating materials may be temporarily exempted).

V. Certification cycle and cost

- Cycle:

- The regular process is 4-5 working days, and the expedited service can be shortened to 2-3 days.

- Cost:

- Billed according to the number of materials, single material testing is 200-600 yuan, and the whole machine testing is about 1000-5000 yuan.

Notes

1. Exemption terms: Some high-temperature welding materials may be exempted from lead content restrictions, which need to be confirmed with the agency in advance.

2. Cross-border sales: If the product is exported to China at the same time, it is necessary to apply for China RoHS certification (the process is similar, but the limit standards may be different).

It is recommended to give priority to institutions that provide both CE and RoHS integrated certification to reduce overall costs. For complete process examples and institution lists, please refer to the EU official website or professional testing platform.
