Pure silver cutlery exported to France must pass the DGCCRF food contact material test. The following are the core test requirements and processes:
I. Testing standard basis
1. Basic regulations
Must comply with EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and French local regulations DGCCRF 2004-64 and Décret no 92-631 to ensure that the material does not release harmful substances and does not affect the sensory properties of food.
2. Special requirements for metal products
- Heavy metal dissolution test: focus on testing the migration of heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni). The limit value refers to the French standard (such as lead ≤0.8mg/L, cadmium ≤0.07mg/L).
- Comprehensive migration test: simulate food contact conditions (such as high temperature, acidic environment), and detect whether the total migration exceeds the standard (usually ≤10mg/dm²).
II. Test items
1. Heavy metal dissolution test
Use 3% acetic acid, olive oil and other simulated liquids to soak the samples, and determine the heavy metal migration by ICP-MS or atomic absorption spectrometry.
2. Comprehensive migration test
Test the total amount of non-volatile substances released by the material in different food simulation liquids (such as water, alcohol, acidic solution).
3. Sensory test
Evaluate whether the knife and fork change the taste, smell or color of the food to ensure that there are no abnormal changes.
4. Silver ion release test (special requirements)
For pure silver materials, additional testing of silver ion migration may be required, and the specific requirements of the laboratory need to be consulted.
III. Test process
1. Select a certification body
A laboratory approved by the French DGCCRF (such as one with CNAS/CMA qualifications) must be selected.
2. Submit information and samples
- Provide product material description, production process, design drawings, etc.
- Prepare a sufficient number of samples (usually 3-5 pieces).
3. Laboratory testing
- Complete the above heavy metal, migration and sensory tests, which takes about 5-7 working days.
4. Report and certification
After passing the test, obtain the DGCCRF compliance report and enter the French market.
