Plastic building blocks tables exported to the EU must pass EN71 testing and certification. The core process and precautions are as follows:
I. Confirmation of applicable standards
Plastic building blocks tables must comply with the following three core parts of the EN71 series of standards:
1. EN71-1 (physical and mechanical properties test)
Includes drop test, small parts test, sharp edge test, tension/pressure/torque test, etc., to ensure structural stability and no safety hazards.
2. EN71-2 (flammability test)
Verify whether the material burning rate meets the limit, especially for flammable parts such as fabrics and plastics.
3. EN71-3 (heavy metal migration test)
Detect the dissolution of 19 heavy metals such as lead and cadmium in accessible materials, simulating the gastric juice environment after children accidentally swallow.
II. Testing process
1. Technical document preparation
Product specifications, design drawings, material lists (including plastics, coatings, etc.), production process instructions, etc. are required to ensure document integrity and compliance.
2. Sample delivery
Representative samples (usually 3-5 pieces) are provided according to the requirements of the certification body and sent to the designated laboratory.
3. Laboratory testing
- EN71-1: Simulate the use scenario of children to test the structural strength, the size of detachable parts (to prevent swallowing risks), etc.
- EN71-2: Conduct flame contact tests on plastic surfaces or fabric parts to evaluate the burning rate.
- EN71-3: Detect the content of migratable heavy metals through a chemical analyzer.
4. Report and certificate
After the test is passed, the laboratory will issue a compliance report and EN71 certification certificate (including CE mark eligibility).
5. Affix the CE mark
The mark height must be ≥5mm, clearly visible and not interfered with by other logos.
III. Cycle
- Cycle: Usually 5-7 working days, complex designs or laboratory schedules may be extended.
