Coffee machine GB4806 food contact material testing application

Date:2026-03-11 09:19:51 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Conducting GB4806 food contact material testing for coffee machines is a necessary compliance step to ensure that materials in the coffee machine that come into contact with food (water, coffee liquid) comply with national safety standards before the product can be sold on the market (especially on e-commerce platforms).

I. Scope of Applicable Standards

Coffee machines are typically composed of various materials, requiring different national standards for different components:

1. General Requirements:

GB 4806.1-2016 "National Food Safety Standard - General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Articles". (Basic requirements that all components must meet)

2. Specific Material Standards (based on coffee machine components):

Plastic components (e.g., water tank, outer casing interface, internal piping): GB 4806.7-2016 "National Food Safety Standard - Plastic Materials and Articles for Food Contact".

Metal components (e.g., heating boiler, filter, coffee outlet): GB 4806.9-2016 "National Food Safety Standard - Metal Materials and Articles for Food Contact".

Rubber/silicone parts (e.g., sealing rings, silicone tubing): GB 4806.11-2016 *National Food Safety Standard - Rubber Materials and Products for Food Contact*.

Glass parts (e.g., glass pots): GB 4806.5-2016 *National Food Safety Standard - Glassware*.

II. Main Testing Items

The testing items vary depending on the material. The following are the key testing points for common coffee machine materials:

1. Plastic parts (GB 4806.7)

Sensory indicators: Sensory characteristics (color, odor, immersion liquid), immersion liquid.

Physicochemical indicators: Total migration, potassium permanganate consumption, heavy metals (as lead), decolorization test.

Note: Specific materials may require testing for monomer residues or specific migration amounts. *

2. Metal parts (GB 4806.9)

Sensory indicators: Sensory requirements.

Physicochemical indicators: Heavy metal leaching (arsenic, cadmium, lead, chromium, nickel, etc.).

Note: Stainless steel materials usually require intergranular corrosion testing (if it is 304 or 316 stainless steel). *

3. Rubber/Silicone Components (GB 4806.11)

Sensory Indicators: Sensory requirements.

Physicochemical Indicators: Total migration, potassium permanganate consumption, heavy metals (as lead), zinc migration, etc.

III. Application Process

The process for obtaining a GB4806 test report typically follows these steps:

1. Confirm the Solution: Determine which parts of the coffee machine are "food contact surfaces" and confirm their materials.

2. Complete the Application: Complete the test application form at the testing institution (a laboratory with CMA/CNAS accreditation).

3. Send Samples:

Usually, finished product samples (such as a disassembled whole machine) or individual components are required.

The sample quantity must meet the testing requirements (generally, several tens of grams or several pieces of each plastic/metal component are required).

4. Laboratory Testing: The laboratory conducts tests on the samples, such as immersion and chemical analysis.

5. Report Issuance: Upon successful testing, the laboratory will issue a CMA/CNS accredited test report (DEZEW Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083).

IV. Required Documents

Product manual (including product images and material declaration).

Application form (including applicant information and manufacturer information).

Sample.

V. Processing Time and Fees

Time: Usually 5-7 working days (expedited service available in approximately 3 working days for an additional fee).

Fees: Depend on the type of material being tested and the number of items. If the coffee machine contains plastic, metal, and rubber, each material must be tested separately, and the fees will be cumulative. It is recommended to contact the testing agency for a specific quote.

VI. Special Notes

1. Material Declaration is Crucial: The applicant must truthfully declare the material composition (e.g., whether it contains bisphenol A, whether recycled materials are used, etc.), which directly affects the testing items.

2. E-commerce platform requirements: If selling on platforms such as Tmall, JD.com, and Douyin, the platforms typically require reports to bear the stamps of CMA (China Metrology Accreditation) and CNAS (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment).

3. Labeling: After passing the test, the product packaging or instruction manual should be labeled in accordance with GB 4806.1 requirements, such as indicating "for food contact use," "FDA" (if applicable), or specific material symbols and usage precautions (such as "maximum operating temperature").
