Eclipse Glasses CE-RoHS Testing and Certification Report

Date:2026-03-18 10:08:31 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Regarding the CE RoHS testing and certification report for "solar eclipse glasses", the following is a detailed guide for handling, testing standards, and process instructions.

1. What is CE RoHS certification for eclipse glasses?

CE certification: It is a mandatory "pass" for products to enter the EU market for sale. For eclipse glasses, this usually involves personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations.

RoHS Directive: It is an environmental directive under CE certification. Mainly restrict the use of certain harmful substances in electronic and electrical equipment. Although eclipse glasses are mainly optical products, if the frame or lens contains coatings, plastic additives, etc., RoHS testing is usually required to ensure that they do not contain harmful heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.

2. Core testing standards

Eclipse glasses belong to personal protective equipment (PPE) and are typically classified as Class II (medium risk) products according to the EU PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425.

The main testing items include:

A. Optical performance (core safety indicators)

According to the standard: ISO 12312-2 (Optical filters for sunglasses)

Transmittance test: The visible light transmittance must be extremely low (usually between 0.003% and 0.005%) to ensure that the naked eye does not get injured when looking directly at the sun.

UV radiation transmittance: It must effectively block UV radiation.

Infrared radiation transmittance: It must effectively block IR radiation.

Blue light transmittance: restricts the transmission of blue light.

B. RoHS 2.0 Environmental Testing

According to Directive 2011/65/EU and its revised Directive (EU) 2015/863

Mainly detect the following 10 harmful substances:

1. Lead

2. Mercury

3. Cadmium

4. Hexavalent chromium

5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)

6. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)

7. Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)

8. Methyl butyl phthalate (BBP)

9. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)

10. Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)

C. Physical and mechanical properties

Flame retardant test.

Lens impact resistance test (if required).

Stability and comfort of the mirror frame.

3. Handling process

The CE RoHS certification report for solar eclipse glasses usually follows the following steps:

1. Project application: Submit an application to a testing institution (third-party laboratory, such as Dezewei Testing CNAS registration number: L8083) to determine the testing standards.

2. Data preparation: Provide product manuals, technical drawings, BOM (Bill of Materials), application forms, etc.

3. Sample delivery: Send a sufficient number of samples (usually finished products and disassembled materials) according to laboratory requirements.

4. Laboratory testing:

Perform RoHS chemical pretreatment and analysis.

Conduct ISO 12312-2 optical performance testing.

Conduct physical and mechanical testing.

5. Report preparation: After the test data is passed, the laboratory will issue a draft report for confirmation.

6. Issuing certificates/reports: After confirming their accuracy, issue formal CE and RoHS testing reports.

Note: As a Class II PPE product, it usually requires Module B or Module C2/D certification from an EU notified body in order to legally affix the CE mark. *

4. List of required documents

Application Form: Includes applicant, manufacturer, and product information.

Product manual: Detailed description of usage, wearing method, warning language.

Sample: Typically requires 3-5 by-products and various component materials (for RoHS chemical testing).

Parts list: List the lens and frame materials (such as PC, cardboard, ABS, etc.).

Technical documents: including design drawings, risk assessment reports, etc.

5. Cost and Cycle

Cost: Depending on the complexity of the product material and the testing items (optical+RoHS+physical). Pure RoHS testing is cheaper, but solar eclipse glasses involve safety protection and optical testing costs are higher. Please consult the laboratory for specific pricing.

Cycle: Usually 5-7 working days (depending on sample preparation and laboratory scheduling).

6. Special Reminder

ISO 12312-2 is crucial: many ordinary sunglasses on the market cannot be used to observe solar eclipses. Eclipse glasses must strictly comply with the ISO 12312-2 standard, otherwise it may lead to permanent blindness. The CE certification report must include the test data for this standard.

Announcement body: If it is for legitimate sales in the EU, a simple testing report may not be sufficient to prove compliance. As a Class II PPE, you may need to seek the participation of qualified EU notified bodies in the certification process.

If you need to apply for this report, it is recommended to contact a third-party testing institution with CNAS qualifications (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment) or EU recognized qualifications (such as Dezewei Testing CNAS registration number: L8083).
