Processing of LFGB testing report for paper cups and bowls in Germany
1、 Why do paper cups need LFGB testing
Paper cups and bowls, as disposable food contact materials, will come into direct contact with food and beverages during use. During the production process of paper, chemical additives such as dyes, fluorescent whitening agents, wet strength agents, and oil protectants may be used. These substances may migrate to food during use, posing a threat to human health. The German LFGB certification is one of the strictest food contact material safety standards in the European Union. Paper cups and bowls exported to the German or EU market must pass LFGB testing and obtain the "knife and fork mark" before they can be legally sold.
2、 Main testing items
|Serial number | Testing item | Limit requirement | Description
|1 | Sensory testing | Must not produce odors or change the color of the food | Ensure that it does not affect the original quality of the food
|2 | Fluorescent whitening agent | Not detectable | May have carcinogenic risk
|3 | Formaldehyde migration | ≤ 75mg/kg | Paper bleach residue
|4 | Heavy metal migration | Lead ≤ 3mg/kg, arsenic ≤ 1mg/kg, etc. | Harmful substances in inks and dyes
|5 | Preservative testing | Must not exceed the standard | Such as pentachlorophenol, etc
|6 | Phthalates | Not detectable or within limits | Plasticizers in printing inks
|7 | Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) | Not detectable or within limits | Ink and additive residues
3、 Handling process
Process steps: Confirm product information → Select testing agency → Send samples → Laboratory testing → Issue report (usually 5-7 working days)
4、 Precautions
Choose an authoritative testing institution with CNAS/CMA qualifications (Dezewei Testing CNAS registration number: L8083)
Product material composition description and production process information are required
The testing items may vary for different materials (such as coated paper, wax coated paper, non fluorinated oil proof paper, etc.)
Children's paper cups and bowls must meet stricter limit requirements
