REACH Chemical Reporting Procedures for Building Adhesives in the EU
I. Why REACH Reporting is Required for Building Adhesives
Building adhesives in the EU market are downstream chemical products governed by the REACH regulation. Their solvents, resins, plasticizers, crosslinking agents, and other chemical components may contain restricted or prohibited hazardous substances. Obtaining REACH reporting is a necessary condition for entering the EU market and a legal requirement for protecting consumer health and environmental safety.
II. Main Testing Items
1. SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) Screening
The candidate list currently includes over 253 substances.
If the SVHC content in a product exceeds 0.1% and the annual export volume exceeds 1 ton, a notification obligation must be fulfilled.
2. Appendix XVII Restricted Substances Testing
Phytates: Limits for DEHP, DBP, BBP, etc.
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs): 16 PAH compounds including benzo[a]pyrene
Heavy Metals: Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, etc.
Formaldehyde: Some adhesive types have release limits.
3. Consumer Product Safety Assessment
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Content
Skin Sensitizing Substance Screening
Reproductive Toxicity Assessment
III. Application Process
1. Application Stage
Submit the application form and product material list.
2. Sample Stage
Send representative samples (1-2 kg).
3. Testing Stage
Laboratory analysis and testing (approximately 5-7 working days).
4. Reporting Stage
Issuance of REACH Compliance Test Report
IV. Required Documents
| Document Type | Specific Content
| Product Information | Product Name, Model, and Usage Description
| Material Composition | List of Chemical Compositions of Each Component (including CAS Number)
| Formulation Ratio | Approximate Proportion of Each Raw Material
| Sample | 500g-1kg Representative Sample
| Other | MSDS (If Available)
V. Timeframe and Cost Reference
| Project | Standard Processing | Expedited Processing
| Testing Timeframe | 5-7 Working Days | 3-5 Working Days
Note: Costs vary depending on the complexity of the adhesive's composition; simpler compositions result in lower costs. Preparing a complete material composition table in advance is recommended to shorten the evaluation period (DEZEW Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083).
VI. Precautions
1. Sample Representativeness: The provided sample must be consistent with the actual mass-produced product to avoid deviations in test results due to formula differences.
2. Completeness of Material List: The more detailed the composition, the more accurately the items to be tested can be located, reducing unnecessary testing costs.
3. Attention to Regulatory Updates: The REACH Annex XVII restriction list is updated periodically. It is recommended to verify the latest requirements before exporting to the EU.
4. Supply Chain Transmission: If the adhesive is used in the production of other products, it is recommended to pass the REACH report down the supply chain.
