Guidelines for Obtaining EU REACH Reports for Jewelry and Accessories
I. Scope of Applicable Products
Jewelry and accessories exported to the EU generally need to comply with REACH requirements, commonly including:
Jewelry: Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, anklets, pendants
Hair Accessories: Hair clips, hair ties, hairpins, headbands
Eyewear: Sunglasses, reading glasses, frames
Belts and Watches: Belts, watch straps, watch accessories
Other Accessories: Brooches, badges, keychains, mobile phone charms
Jewelry made of various materials such as metal, alloy, plastic, leather, and textiles all require testing, with a focus on products that come into prolonged contact with skin.
II. Main Testing Items
| Testing Category | Specific Items | Applicable Materials
| SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) Screening | 253 items (latest ECHA list) | All Materials
| Heavy Metals | Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Nickel Release, Arsenic (As), Mercury (Hg), etc. | Metals, Alloys
| Phthalate Salts | DEHP, DBP, BBP, etc. (6-12 items) | PVC Plastics, Rubber Parts
| Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) | 16 PAHs (German LFGB requirements) | Plastics, Rubber, Coatings
| Organotin Compounds | TBT, TPhT, DBT, etc. | PVC, Silicone, Antifouling Coatings
| Azo Dyes | 22 Aromatic Amines | Textile and Leather Components
III. Application Process
Step 1: Consultation and Assessment Contact a testing agency, provide product material and composition table and pictures, and confirm the testing plan and quotation.
Step 2: Application Acceptance Fill out the application form and submit product information (material list, exploded view of parts, etc.).
Step 3: Sample Submission Provide 3-5 finished products or components made of relevant materials (submit samples of different materials such as metal and plastic).
Step 4: Laboratory Testing Typical cycle: 5-7 working days.
Step 5: Report Issuance Upon successful testing, an English version of the REACH compliance report will be issued, which can be verified online.
IV. Cost Reference
Jewelry (necklaces/earrings, etc.): Approximately 1000-3000 RMB
Multi-material, multi-component products: Cost increases with the number of materials.
For products using multiple materials (e.g., metal + plastic + leather), it is recommended to provide separate quotations for each material to avoid omitting testing items.
V. Institution Selection and Precautions
1. Recommended Institution
International Institution: Dezeway Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083
2. Key Precautions
✅ Choose a CNAS/CMA accredited institution to ensure the report is recognized by EU customs.
✅ Cadmium content in jewelry is a high-risk item in the EU; cadmium content ≤ 100 mg/kg (EN 1811 standard).
✅ Nickel release is a core issue; products with long-term skin contact must comply with EN 1811/EN 12472.
✅ The SVHC list is updated every six months; it is recommended to obtain a report 1-2 months before shipment.
⚠️ SVHC substances exceeding 0.1% (w/w) must be reported to ECHA, and information must be provided to consumers.
⚠️ There is no uniform validity period for the report, but it is recommended to use it within one year to avoid expiration due to regulatory updates.
