LFGB Certification Application Guide for Candy Molds

Candy molds are classified as food contact materials and must obtain LFGB certification to be sold in the German market or purchased by German customers. Below is a complete guide to the application process, required materials, testing items, and important considerations.

I. Application Process (5 Stages)

1. Initial Consultation and Solution Confirmation

Contact a qualified testing organization (e.g., Dezeway Testing, CNAS Registration No.: L8083)

Confirm product material (silicone, plastic, metal, etc.), process, and intended use

Obtain a quote and testing cycle

2. Sample Preparation and Submission

Number of samples: 5-8 finished products are usually required, depending on the material and testing items.

Samples must be brand new, unused products with complete packaging.

Submit product instructions, material composition table, and color photographs.

3. Laboratory Testing

The organization conducts sensory testing, chemical migration testing, etc.

If any items fail to meet standards, the organization will provide a rectification plan.

4. Report Issuance and Review

An LFGB test report (in Chinese, English, or German) will be issued after the test is passed.

The report must be stamped with the official seals of CMA, CNAS, and the testing organization.

5. Follow-up Services

Some organizations offer certificate verification services.

Re-testing is usually required within one year to ensure product consistency.

II. Required Application Materials

| Material Name | Specific Requirements

| Application Form | Includes basic information on the client, manufacturer, and product

| Business License | Client's enterprise qualification certificate

| Product Manual | Chinese and English versions, including usage instructions and applicable temperature range

| Material Composition Table | Detailed list of raw materials (e.g., silicone type, plastic type)

| Sample | Sufficient quantity of finished products, with intact packaging

| Process Flow Chart | Brief description of the production and processing flow

| Authorization Letter | Required if the brand owner and manufacturer are different

III. Fees and Cycle Reference

| Items | Reference range

| Testing Fee | 1000-3000 RMB (depending on the item and material)

| Testing Cycle | 5-7 working days

| Report Language | Chinese/English/German/bilingual version

| Report Validity | Usually 1-3 years (annual retesting is recommended)

V. Application Notes

Key Points

1. Material differences determine testing items: The testing items and standards for silicone and plastic differ significantly; testing must be conducted according to the actual material.

2. Temperature Usage Conditions: Candy molds are often used at high temperatures (baking) or frozen conditions (chocolate), requiring testing to simulate actual usage temperatures (e.g., 100°C, 200°C, etc.).

3. More stringent requirements for colored products: Colored candy molds containing dyes require additional testing for azo dyes and heavy metals.

4. Infant-related products: Products claiming suitability for infant food preparation must comply with the stricter LFGB §30/31 clauses.

5. German Customs Inspections: Even with CE or other certifications, German customs may still require an LFGB report for entry into the German market.

Practical Recommendations:

✅ Use food-grade silicone (e.g., platinum-cured silicone) raw materials to reduce risks at the source.

✅ Confirm with German clients whether an LFGB test report or an LFGB declaration of conformity is required to avoid document mismatches.

✅ Retain food-grade certifications from raw material suppliers (e.g., FDA, EU 1935/2004/EC).

✅ Products from the same series (e.g., molds of different shapes) can be packaged for testing to save costs.

✅ The report must correspond one-to-one with the product, and the model and production batch information must be accurate.
