Air purifiers are complex electronic products, and testing involves multiple components, including the casing material, filter, inner coating, electronic components, and plastic parts. The following is the complete testing report process:
I. Preparatory Work Before Testing
1. Determine the List of Applicable Chemical Substances
Air purifiers typically require testing for the following substances:
Metals: Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr⁶⁺)
Phytates: DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP (used in plastic parts)
Organic Substances: Formaldehyde, Benzene (used in adhesives, plastics)
Flame Retardants: PBDE, TBBPA (used in circuit boards, plastic casings)
Others: Bisphenol A (BPA), Cadmium (used in batteries, solder)
2. Select a Testing Organization
ISO is recommended. Third-party laboratories certified under 17025, such as Dezewei Testing (CNAS registration number: L8083)
II. Testing Process (6 steps)
1. Application and Quotation
Submit product information (model, material list, component BOM) to the testing agency.
The laboratory develops a testing plan and provides a quotation based on the materials.
2. Sample Submission
Provide finished product samples or key components (e.g., filters, housings, PCB boards, power cords, plastic parts).
Sample quantity is typically 2-3 finished products + spare parts for key components.
3. Disassembly and Pre-treatment
The laboratory disassembles the samples and groups them according to homogeneous materials (e.g., all ABS plastics, all metal parts).
Chemical analysis is performed on different materials separately.
4. Laboratory Testing
The following standard methods are used:
Lead, Cadmium, Mercury: EPA 3050B, EPA 3052, ICP-OES/ICP-MS
Hexavalent Chromium: EPA 3060A, EPA 7196A
Phthols: CPSC-CH-C1001-09.3 (GC-MS method)
Formaldehyde: EPA 8315A, HPLC method
Flame retardants: GC-MS, LC-MS
5. Result Evaluation and Report Issuance
The laboratory will compare the test results with California Proposition 65's MADL (Maximum Allowable Dose Level) or NSRL (No Significant Risk Level).
A test report in both Chinese and English will be issued, including the test method, limits, test results, and conclusions.
6. Labeling and Compliance Recommendations
If the test results exceed the limits, a warning label template is required.
If the test results are satisfactory, a compliance test report will be obtained and archived.
III. Testing Cycle and Fees
