On May 5, 2022, EN 71-13:2021+A1:2022 was published by the European Committee for Standardization as a new version of the standard "Safety of toys - Part 13: Smell board games, cosmetic bags and taste games". Its main purpose is to implement Directives 2020/2089/EU and 2020/2088/EU on toy flavours and to supersede the current version EN 71-13:2021.
In Member States, EN 71-13:2021+A1:2022 shall acquire the status of a national standard by November 2022 at the latest, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn by this date. Germany published a national version of DIN EN 71-13:2022-07 in July, while DIN EN 71-13:2021-06 was withdrawn.
Currently, EN 71-13:2021 is still used as the basis for presumption of conformity with Directive 2009/48/EC on the safety of toys. Only as of 15 May, it supersedes the older version EN 71-13:2014, which was implemented by the Committee (EU) 2021 of 15 November 2021 on Harmonized Standards for Toys drafted in support of Directive 2009/48/EC /1992 decided to resolve.
It is expected that the latest version of EN 71-13 will be referenced in the next published standard in support of Directive 2009/48/EC in the Official Journal of the European Union. After the end of the unified transition period (probably 3-6 months), this version will be legally binding.
