According to China's "National Toy Safety Technical Specifications" (GB6675), plush toys must comply with the following core testing standards and requirements:
I. Mechanical and physical performance testing
1. Small parts test
- Ensure that there are no small parts (such as eyes, buttons, and decorations) in plush toys that are easy to fall off and may cause children to swallow or choke. Toys for children under 36 months old need to focus on testing the firmness of the parts.
2. Edge and tip test
- Check whether the sutures and metal skeletons (if any) have sharp edges or tips to avoid scratch risks.
3. Filling safety
- Test the tensile strength and pressure resistance of filling materials (such as PP cotton and sponge) to ensure that there is no risk of rupture or overflow after normal use or abuse.
II. Chemical performance testing
1. Heavy metal migration test
- Detect the migration of eight heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and mercury (Hg) in accessible materials (such as fabrics and coatings), which must meet the limit requirements of GB6675.4.
2. Detection of harmful chemicals
- Including formaldehyde, aromatic amines, decomposable carcinogenic dyes, etc., of which the formaldehyde content must be ≤75mg/kg (materials that directly contact the skin).
3. Plasticizer detection
- For toys containing plastic parts (such as sound generators, decorative accessories), 6 types of phthalates (DEHP, DBP, etc.) must be tested, and the total content must be ≤0.1%.
III. Flammability test
1. Burning speed test
- Plush toy materials must be flame retardant treated, and the burning speed must be ≤30mm/s (vertical burning method).
2. Flame retardant compliance
- Flame retardants must not contain banned substances such as polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs).
IV. Labeling and instructions for use requirements
1. Safety warning label
- The applicable age (such as "children under 3 years old need adult supervision"), safety warnings (such as "do not wash") and the "GB6675" standard logo must be marked.
2. Material information labeling
- The outer packaging must clearly indicate the filling type, fabric composition and maintenance method (such as hand wash or machine wash).
V. Other special requirements
1. Hygiene and microorganisms
- The filling material must comply with the "Quality Requirements for Reprocessed Fibers" and must not contain mold, insects or pathogens.
2. Packaging safety
- The thickness of the packaging plastic bag must be ≥0.038mm, and it must be perforated to prevent children from suffocating.
Tip: For specific testing procedures, please contact Dezewei Certification Agency. For complete standard documents, refer to "GB6675.1-2014" to "GB6675.4-2014". If exported to the EU or the United States, EN71 or ASTM F963 testing is also required.
