German LFGB testing requirements for barbecue grill kits

Date:2025-02-27 10:19:43 Classification :【question】 Visits:
According to the German LFGB regulations on the testing requirements of barbecue grill kits, the following core content and processes need to be prepared:

I. Core testing items

1. Initial material inspection

- Preliminary evaluation of materials such as metals and plastics, including component analysis and production process verification.

2. Sensory evaluation

- Test whether the barbecue grill will release odor or affect the taste of food at high temperatures, such as smoke residue odor detection.

3. Heavy metal precipitation test

- Metal parts (such as grills, brackets): The dissolution of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, chromium, and nickel needs to be tested, and the nickel release must be ≤0.5μg/cm²/week;

- Plastic parts (such as handles, accessories): Transferable components and precipitable heavy metals (such as lead and cadmium) need to be tested.

4. Chemical migration test

- Plastic or coating materials need to undergo a comprehensive migration test (3 simulated liquids: water, 3% acetic acid, 10% ethanol) to evaluate the migration of harmful substances.

II. Sample and material requirements

1. Sample quantity

- Provide at least 3 sets of complete grill kit samples, covering different materials (such as stainless steel, cast iron, plastic coating) and processes (such as coating, welding).

2. Technical documents

- Submit product instructions, material list (including alloy ratio), production process flow chart, and clearly define the parts in contact with food and contact conditions (such as high temperature grilling).

3. Supplier statement

- Provide chemical compliance certificates of raw material suppliers, especially phthalates (such as DEHP) and heavy metal content statements for plastics and coating materials.

III. Certification process and cycle

1. Laboratory selection

- Tests must be conducted by a third-party organization recognized by the EU (such as Dezewei) to ensure that the report is recognized by platforms such as Amazon and Temu.

2. Testing cycle

- Conventional testing takes 3-5 working days, and expedited services can be shortened to 1-3 working days.

3. Report content

- After passing, you will get the LFGB test report and Declaration of Conformity (DoC), which must include heavy metal data, migration test results and the "knife and fork" logo.

IV. Special considerations

1. Platform compliance

- Amazon may additionally require an RSL (Restricted Substance List) report, which must be marked with test results for substances such as phthalates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

2. Regulatory updates

- It is necessary to regularly pay attention to ECHA's updates to the SVHC list (such as new flame retardant or plasticizer restrictions) to avoid product failures due to standard changes.

3. Labels and packaging

- Products that pass the test must be marked with the "LFGB" knife and fork logo, and the outer packaging must indicate the material type and operating temperature range.

V. Common unqualified points and improvement suggestions

- Metal welding parts: It is easy to exceed the lead and cadmium standards, and it is recommended to use lead-free solder;

- Plastic coating: Phthalates may be released at high temperatures, and it is recommended to replace them with silicone or food-grade Teflon coatings.
