To process a toaster for China's GB4806 testing, the testing must focus on its food-contact components (such as the internal tray, compartments, and baking rack). The specific process is as follows:
I. Preliminary Preparation
1. Clarify the Testing Scope and Standards
The testing only covers the bread-contact components of the toaster. The materials must match the corresponding GB4806 sub-standard: plastic components refer to GB4806.7, metal components refer to GB4806.9, and the overall system must comply with the general safety requirements of GB4806.1.
2. Prepare Application Documents
Basic Product Information: Name, model, material list, manufacturer information;
Product Identification: Instruction manual, label, outer packaging, etc.;
Supplementary Documents: Product certificate of conformity, quality assurance certificate (if any).
3. Prepare Samples
Provide sufficient samples as required by the testing agency. Typically, 1-2 complete prototype units or disassembled food-contact component samples are required to meet the sampling requirements of the testing items.
II. Selecting a Compliant Testing Organization
Choose a third-party testing organization with CMA and CNAS accreditations and GB4806 testing authorization (e.g., Dezewei Testing CNAS registration number: L8083), such as a nationally accredited professional laboratory for food contact materials.
III. Formal Application and Sample Submission
1. Complete and submit the GB4806 testing application form, clearly indicating the material and testing requirements of the toaster's food contact parts;
2. Mail the samples to the testing organization, simultaneously submitting all prepared documents and paying the testing fee (the fee varies depending on the test items and the quantity of materials, typically ranging from 500-3000 RMB).
IV. Laboratory Testing Phase
1. Core Testing Items
The testing organization will conduct the following tests according to GB4806 standard and the high-temperature usage scenario of toasters:
Migration Test: Simulating contact scenarios with acidic and fatty foods to detect the total amount of substance migration;
Specific Migration Test: Detecting the leaching of phthalates, heavy metals (lead, cadmium, etc.), formaldehyde, and other harmful chemicals;
Physicochemical Performance Test: High-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance to ensure material stability during heating;
Some scenarios require assessment of the risk of microbial growth.
2. Report Verification
After testing, the organization will issue a draft test report. The company must carefully verify the test data, results, and other content. If there are any discrepancies, please communicate with the organization promptly for adjustments.
V. Obtaining the Report and Compliance Application
1. After verification, the testing organization will issue a formal test report, clearly indicating whether the food contact parts of the toaster comply with GB4806 standard;
2. The report can be used for listing on e-commerce platforms, entering physical supermarkets, bidding, and other scenarios;
3. Note: As a small kitchen appliance, in addition to the GB4806 food contact test, a GB4706 electrical safety test report is also required for toasters, and some categories require CCC mandatory certification.
