16 October 2024 - At its October meeting, the European Union Member States Committee (MSC) agreed to identify triphenyl phosphate as a substance of very high concern, an SVHC, due to its endocrine-disrupting properties in the environment. ECHA will add this substance to the candidate list in early November, when SVHC will increase from 241 to 242.

Reason for proposal: Endocrine disrupting properties (Section 57(f) - Environment)

Common uses: Mainly used as a flame retardant plasticizer for engineering plastics and phenolic resin laminated boards; also used as a softener for synthetic rubber and a raw material for the manufacture of trimethyl phosphate, etc.

This substance launched a public consultation in January 2024 and was originally planned to be identified as an SVHC candidate substance in June 2024. However, in order to ensure the correct assessment of new data collected before the meeting, ECHA suspended the identification process of this substance. After several months of further evaluation, it was finally decided to identify the substance as an SVHC candidate list substance.
