EU RoHS Annex IV is about to add a mercury exemption

On May 4, 2023, the European Commission approved a draft exemption for mercury in the melt pressure sensor of the newly added capillary rheometer in Annex IV of the RoHS. The draft was initiated for public review from December 12, 2022 to January 9, 2023. Next, the EU will officially add this exemption by issuing a RoHS revision directive in its official gazette. The exemption content is as follows:

In Annex IV of Directive 2011/65/EU, the following entries are proposed to be added:

The EU RoHS restricted substance exemption includes Annex III and Annex IV, with Annex III exemption clauses applicable to categories 1-11 electronic and electrical products, while Annex IV only applies to categories 8 and 9 electronic and electrical products. This update mainly targets category 9 products, so manufacturers of category 9 products need to focus on the latest developments in this exemption.
