Disposable water cups, China GB4806 Food Contact Materials Report

Date:2026-02-28 09:41:20 Classification :【question】 Visits:
For obtaining a Chinese GB4806 food contact material testing report for disposable water cups, the specific testing standards, items, and procedures depend on the material of the cup. Disposable water cups are mainly divided into two categories: plastic and paper.

The following is a detailed guide:

I. Determining the Testing Standard (by Material)

Before applying for a report, you must clarify the material of your product, as different materials correspond to different national standards:

1. Plastic Disposable Water Cups (e.g., PP cups, PET cups, PS cups)

Core Standards:

GB 4806.1-2016: National Food Safety Standard - General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Articles

GB 4806.7-2016: National Food Safety Standard - Plastic Materials and Articles for Food Contact

Applicable Products: Milk tea cups, beverage cups, airline cups, transparent blister cups, etc.

2. Disposable Paper Cups (e.g., paper cups)

Core Standards:

GB 4806.1-2016: National Food Safety Standard - General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Articles

GB 4806.8-2016: National Food Safety Standard - Paper and Paperboard Materials and Articles for Food Contact

Applicable Products: Paper cups, coffee paper cups, coated paper cups.

Note: For paper cups, they must also comply with the product standard GB/T 27590 "Paper Cups," but food-grade testing is mainly based on GB 4806.8. *

II. Core Testing Items

The laboratory will test samples according to the above standards. The main items are as follows:

1. Plastic Cups (GB 4806.7) Testing Items:

Sensory Requirements: Color, odor, taste, appearance (no off-odor, no strange smell, no mold, etc.).

Physicochemical Indicators:

Total Migration (Evaporation Residue): Simulates the migration of substances under conditions such as water, acid, alcohol, and oil.

Potassium Permanganate Consumption: Detects water-soluble oxidizable substances.

Heavy Metals (as Pb): Detects the migration of heavy metals.

Decolorization Test: For colored cups, tests whether color is lost.

2. Paper Cups (GB 4806.8) Testing Items:

Sensory Requirements: Appearance, color, odor, etc.

Physicochemical Indicators:

Lead, Arsenic.

Formaldehyde.

Fluorescent Whitening Agent (Important: This item is frequently tested on paper cups to prevent the use of waste paper).

Total Migration (Evaporation Residue).

Potassium Permanganate Consumption.

Heavy Metals (as Pb).

III. Processing Procedure

The process of obtaining a GB4806 test report typically involves the following steps, taking approximately 5-7 working days:

1. Application Form Completion: Submit an application to the testing organization, clearly specifying the product name, model, material, and production information.

2. Sample Submission:

Plastic Cups: Approximately 50-100 samples are usually required (depending on the specific test items).

Paper Cups: Approximately 50-100 samples are usually required.

Note: If there are multiple cups of different colors or sizes, samples must be submitted separately or confirmation must be made regarding whether they can be treated as a series model. *

3. Quotation and Contract Signing: The organization will provide a quotation based on the material and test items, and a contract will be signed after confirmation.

4. Laboratory Testing: The organization will conduct the tests according to the above standards on the samples.

5. Report Issuance: After passing the tests, a test report bearing the CMA (China Metrology Accreditation) and CNAS seals will be issued.

IV. Important Notes on Application Processing (Key Points)

1. Labeling Compliance (GB 4806.1 Requirements):

After receiving the report, the product packaging must be correctly labeled. The packaging (e.g., large packaging bag) of disposable water cups must include the following information:

Product Name.

Material (e.g., Polypropylene (PP)).

Name, address, and contact information of the producer and/or distributor.

Production date and shelf life (or expiration date).

The words "For Food Contact Use" or the "spoon and fork" symbol.

Usage Precautions (e.g., applicable temperature range, do not microwave, etc.).

2. E-commerce Platform Requirements:

If you are selling on platforms such as Tmall, JD.com, or Pinduoduo, the platform usually requires uploading a scanned copy of the report stamped by CMA. Please ensure that the applicant information in the report matches the store's entity.

3. Color and Printing:

If the cup has a large printed pattern, it is recommended to inform the laboratory when submitting the sample for testing, as migration testing of specific substances may be required.
