Mechanical keyboard EU ROHS testing project

Date:2024-04-23 09:57:07 Classification :【question】 Visits:
As a part of electronic products, mechanical keyboards require EU RoHS certification. RoHS certification is a European directive that aims to restrict the use of hazardous substances in electronic and electrical equipment, including lead, mercury, cadmium, etc., to reduce the impact of these hazardous substances on the environment and human health.

Mechanical keyboard EU ROHS testing items:

1. Lead (Pb): Lead is a common heavy metal that is widely used in electronic products, especially in the manufacturing process of soldering and other electronic components. RoHS certification has strict requirements on the lead content in electronic products to ensure that it does not exceed the limit value.

2. Mercury (Hg): Mercury is a toxic substance commonly used in some switches, lighting equipment and other electronic products. In mechanical keyboards, if parts containing mercury are used, strict testing is also required to ensure that their content complies with RoHS standards.

3. Cadmium (Cd): Cadmium is usually used in batteries, connectors and other components. However, in the RoHS directive, there are clear restrictions or prohibitions on the use of cadmium in electronic equipment. Therefore, mechanical keyboards must not contain cadmium exceeding the limit.

4. Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+): Hexavalent chromium is a strong carcinogen and is often used in anti-corrosion coatings. Although mechanical keyboards do not directly use anti-corrosion coatings, they still need to ensure that the product does not contain excessive hexavalent chromium to comply with the requirements of the RoHS directive.

5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE): These two substances are common flame retardants, but they may release toxic gases during the combustion process, causing harm to human health and the environment. Therefore, in the production process of mechanical keyboards, it is necessary to ensure that no or only very small amounts of these substances are used.

Mechanical keyboard EU ROHS testing process:

1. Determine whether the product complies with the requirements of the RoHS Directive and obtain the corresponding testing standards: Enterprises need to understand and determine whether their mechanical keyboard products comply with the restrictions of the RoHS Directive, and obtain the RoHS testing standards applicable to the product.

2. Select a suitable third-party testing agency and submit an application: Enterprises need to select a third-party testing agency with RoHS testing qualifications and experience and submit a RoHS testing application to it. During the application process, companies need to provide product samples and related product information, material composition, etc.

3. The testing agency tests the samples: After receiving the samples, the testing agency will test the samples in accordance with the RoHS directive and relevant testing standards. This includes testing samples for levels of hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Detection methods may include chemical analysis, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, etc.

4. Issue a RoHS test report: The testing agency issues a RoHS test report based on the test results to confirm whether the product meets the requirements of the RoHS directive. The report will list in detail the results of each testing indicator and the conclusion on whether the restrictions are met.

5. Prepare a RoHS compliance statement and submit it to buyers or certification agencies in the EU: The company prepares a RoHS compliance statement based on the results of the RoHS test report, and submits the statement and test report to buyers or certification agencies in the EU for review. . After passing the review, the product can be sold in the EU market.
