Sunglasses California 65 testing project

Date:2024-05-08 10:20:43 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Sunglasses may require California 65 testing. California 65 testing is applicable to a wide range of product areas, including but not limited to food and beverages, cosmetics and personal care products, household products, children's products, building materials, electronic products, etc. Sunglasses are used as personal eye protection products. If their materials or manufacturing process use harmful substances listed in California Proposition 65, or may be exposed to these harmful substances, then California 65 testing is required.

Sunglasses California 65 testing items:

1. Lead (Pb) content: California 65 has strict limits on lead content, mainly focusing on the lead that may be contained in the frames, lenses or other accessories of sunglasses. Lead is a heavy metal and long-term exposure may have negative effects on human health.

2. Cadmium (Cd) content: Similar to lead, cadmium is also a heavy metal and is harmful to human health. California 65 also has clear limits on cadmium content.

3. Phthalates: This is a common plastic additive used to increase the flexibility and durability of plastics. However, some phthalates are considered to have the potential to have negative effects on human health, particularly with long-term exposure or ingestion of large amounts. California 65 has strict restrictions on certain types of phthalates.

4. Other hazardous substances: In addition to the above-mentioned substances, California 65 also lists many other hazardous substances, which may vary depending on product type and use. For sunglasses, harmful substances that may need attention include but are not limited to: bisphenol A (BPA), formaldehyde, etc.

Sunglasses California 65 testing process:

1. Determine the product scope: First, determine whether the sunglasses require California 65 testing. If the product is planned to be sold or distributed in California, testing is required, especially if the product materials may contain hazardous substances listed in California Proposition 65.

2. Choose a certification agency: Choose a certification agency with qualifications and experience to conduct testing. These facilities should be familiar with California Proposition 65 requirements and be able to provide accurate testing services.

3. Submit samples: Submit the sunglasses samples that need to be tested to the certification agency. Typically, agencies will require a sufficient number of samples to conduct comprehensive testing.

4. Test: The certification agency will test the sunglasses samples in accordance with the requirements of California Proposition 65. This includes checking products for harmful substances such as lead, cadmium, and phthalates, and determining whether their levels exceed California 65 limits.

5. Issue a report: After completing the test, the certification agency will issue a detailed test report indicating whether the sunglasses sample contains harmful substances and whether the content of these substances exceeds the limit.

6. Processing results: If no harmful substances are detected in the sunglasses sample or the content does not exceed the limit, then the product can meet the requirements of California Proposition 65 and can be sold in California. If a hazardous substance is detected and the content exceeds the limit, the manufacturer or importer needs to make improvements to the product to reduce the content of the hazardous substance and then resubmit the sample for testing.
