MSDS is a comprehensive legal document on the characteristics of chemicals that chemical production or sales companies provide to customers in accordance with legal requirements. It provides sixteen items including physical and chemical parameters of chemicals, combustion and explosion properties, health hazards, safe use and storage, leakage disposal, first aid measures and relevant laws and regulations. SDS/MSDS reports usually contain the following key information:
1. Identification of the substance or mixture and supplier: including product name, name of manufacturer or supplier, address, emergency contact number, etc.
2. Ingredient/composition information: List the chemical name, CAS number, percentage composition, etc. of the chemical.
3. Hazard identification: Classify the physical, health and environmental hazards of chemicals according to the Globally Harmonized Chemical Classification System (GHS).
4. First aid measures: Provide first aid guidance for different exposure routes (such as inhalation, skin contact, eye contact, ingestion).
5. Fire-fighting measures: include suitable fire-extinguishing media, special fire-fighting considerations and any hazardous combustion products.
6. Accidental Release Measures: Describe how to safely handle a chemical release, including personal protection, environmental protection measures, and clean-up methods.
7. Handling and Storage: Provide requirements for safe handling and storage, including any incompatibilities.
8. Exposure controls/personal protection: Includes occupational exposure limits, engineering controls and personal protective equipment.
9. Physical and chemical properties: Describe the chemical's appearance, odor, pH value, melting point, boiling point, flash point, etc.
10. Stability and Reactivity: Describe the chemical's stability, possible hazardous reactions, and conditions to avoid.
11. Toxicological Information: Provides information on the health effects, symptoms, and possible routes of exposure of chemicals.
12. Ecological information: including ecotoxicity, persistence and degradability, bioaccumulation potential, etc.
13. Disposal considerations: Provide methods and information for waste handling and disposal.
14. Shipping information: Include applicable shipping labels and packaging groups.
15. Regulatory information: may include regulatory requirements and restrictions in specific countries or regions.
16. Other information: may include information on the preparation and revision of safety data sheets, references, etc.
This information helps users understand the potential risks of chemicals and take appropriate precautions to protect health, safety and the environment.
