Adhesive EU REACH testing process

Date:2024-09-12 09:23:14 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Adhesives do need to undergo EU REACH testing. REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) is an EU regulation that requires the registration, evaluation and possible registration of all chemical substances produced, imported, used and sold on the EU market. restrictions. The process for adhesives to undergo REACH testing in the EU usually includes the following key steps:

1. Determine responsibility: Manufacturers or importers are responsible for registering chemical substances in adhesives they sell on the EU market. If the adhesive contains a chemical substance classified as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) and the content exceeds 0.1%, it needs to be notified to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

2. Pre-registration: After the REACH regulation takes effect, pre-registration of "in-stage" substances is required so that ECHA can understand the scope of registration and group companies by substances.

3. Registration: According to the pre-registered substance, the manufacturer or importer needs to submit the registration dossier within the specified time, including the attribute and use information of the substance. Registration requirements depend on the volume of the substance produced or imported.

4. Safety assessment: For substances with an annual output of more than 10 tons, a chemical safety assessment (CSA) is required, including hazard assessment and risk characterization.

5. Information transfer: The manufacturer or importer must provide a safety data sheet (SDS) to downstream users and provide information on how to use the substance safely.

6. Authorization and restriction*: For some extremely hazardous substances, REACH also stipulates authorization and restriction mechanisms to reduce potential risks.

7. Compliance testing: Adhesives need to undergo a series of tests to ensure that they comply with the requirements of the REACH regulations, including but not limited to durability testing, viscosity testing, curing testing, peel testing, shear testing, impact testing and creep Testing etc.

8. Documentation and Records: All test results and evaluation reports must be properly documented and made available to the relevant regulatory authorities upon request.

9. Ongoing compliance: Even after initial registration and evaluation, manufacturers and importers need to continually monitor regulatory changes and ensure that their products continue to comply with all applicable REACH requirements.

Please note that the specific procedures and requirements for REACH testing may change with updates to regulations and the characteristics of specific substances. Therefore, it is recommended to work with a professional REACH consultant or testing laboratory to ensure full compliance with all requirements.
