Glass water bottle meets California Proposition 65 testing standards

Date:2025-03-20 10:30:39 Classification :【question】 Visits:
California Proposition 65, formally known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires that products sold in California contain chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity with clear and reasonable warnings. For glass water bottles, to meet the California Proposition 65 testing standards, you need to pay attention to the following aspects:

1. Chemical Restrictions

California Proposition 65 lists more than 900 chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. For glass water bottles, the main chemicals of concern include heavy metals such as lead and cadmium. The specific requirements are as follows:

- Lead: The lead content of the materials used in the external decoration (including the edge area) of the glass water bottle should be less than 0.06%, and the lead content in the wipe test should be less than 1.0μg.

- Cadmium: The cadmium content of the materials used in the external decoration (including the edge area) of the glass water bottle should be less than 0.48%, and the cadmium content in the wipe test should be less than 8.0μg.

2. Warning Labels

If the glass water bottle cannot meet the above-mentioned remanufacturing standards, it must be marked with the warning label required by California Proposition 65. The content of the warning label should be clear and reasonable to inform consumers that the product contains chemicals that may cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.

3. Special requirements

- Children's products: If the glass water bottle is designed for children, it must meet more stringent remanufacturing standards.

- Non-food or beverage glass and ceramic products: Although mainly used to store food or beverages, if the glass water bottle has other uses, it must also meet the corresponding standards.

4. Testing process

In order to ensure that the glass water bottle meets the California Proposition 65 testing standards, the following steps are recommended:

1. Sample preparation: Prepare glass water bottle samples to ensure that the samples are representative.

2. Chemical testing: Perform chemical testing on the samples to detect the content of harmful chemicals such as lead and cadmium.

3. Physical testing: Evaluate the mechanical properties and stability of the glass water bottle.

4. Issue a test report: After the test is completed, the testing agency will issue a detailed test report, listing the results of all test items and giving a conclusion on whether it complies with California Proposition 65.

5. Issue a certificate of conformity: If the sample passes all test items and meets the requirements of California Proposition 65, the testing agency will issue a certificate of conformity that complies with California Proposition 65.
