What is MSDS Chemical Safety Data Sheet? MSDS is the Material Safety Data Sheet, the chemical safety data sheet. It is a comprehensive legal document about chemical characteristics provided by chemical production, trade and sales enterprises to downstream customers and the public in accordance with legal requirements, providing chemical physical and chemical parameters, explosive performance, health hazards, safe use and storage , leakage disposal, first aid measures and related laws and regulations and other 16 items.

Sixteen items

Fire-fighting measures Leak emergency treatment Handling and Storage Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Physical and chemical properties Stability and reactivity Toxicological information ecological information

MSDS requirements

MSDS is one of the main ways of material information transmission in the chemical supply chain. Its content basically involves the entire life cycle of chemicals, including chemical hazard information and safety protection recommendations. It provides necessary measures for human health and environmental safety protection for relevant personnel exposed to chemicals, and also provides valuable comprehensive advice for relevant personnel in different links. At present, SDS has become an important means of chemical safety management for many advanced chemical companies, and it is also the focus of corporate responsibility and government supervision clearly proposed by the State Council's new "Regulations on the Safety Management of Hazardous Chemicals" (Order No. 591).

The State Council's new "Regulations on the Safety Management of Hazardous Chemicals" (Order No. 591) legally stipulates the subjects who need to use chemical safety data sheets and chemical safety labels mandatory. The details are as follows.

Article 15 Hazardous chemical production enterprises shall provide chemical safety technical instructions consistent with the hazardous chemicals they produce, and paste or tie them on the packaging of hazardous chemicals (including outer packages) that are consistent with the hazardous chemicals in the packaging. Label. The contents stated in the chemical safety data sheet and chemical safety label shall meet the requirements of national standards.

If a hazardous chemical production enterprise finds that the hazardous chemicals it produces have new dangerous properties, it shall announce it immediately and revise its chemical safety technical specification and chemical safety label in a timely manner.

Which substances require an SDS?

a) substances classified as dangerous goods or mixtures containing dangerous goods in accordance with the corresponding legislation;

b) The substance or mixture is not classified as dangerous, but contains a certain proportion of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC*) or other hazardous components;

c) Substances determined to be persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic (PBT) or highly persistent, highly bioaccumulative (vPvB) according to the corresponding criteria;

d) When the product does not meet the above conditions, but is required by the competent authority or importer, or when the industry has stricter requirements for product substance classification and labelling, the enterprise also needs to pass MSDS on its supply chain.

Does the MSDS report have an expiration date?

MSDS/SDS do not have a clear expiration date. But MSDS/SDS is not set in stone. In the following cases, the content of MSDS/SDS must be updated in time:

1. The substances/components/proportions in the products targeted by MSDS have changed;

2. The regulatory basis and requirements formulated by MSDS have changed;

3. The products targeted by MSDS are found to have new hazard characteristics;

4. MSDS has new data or knowledge on the toxicological information/ecological information of the substance.
