Why do I do POPs test? What are the restricted substances of EU POPs?

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) refer to chemicals synthesized by humans that can persist in the environment, accumulate through the biological food chain (network), and cause harmful effects on human health.

It has four characteristics: high toxicity, persistence, bioaccumulation and long-distance mobility. For humans at the top of the biological chain, these toxicity are more than 70000 times larger than the original.

In view of the high toxicity, persistence, accumulation and mobility of POPs, in order to promote the elimination and reduction of POPs, many countries jointly signed the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants in 2001.

EU POPs restricted substances requirements

Tetrabromodiphenyl ether, pentabromodiphenyl ether, hexabromodiphenyl ether, heptabromodiphenyl ether, and decabromodiphenyl ether require that each of the five substances ≤ 10ppm; The sum of 5 items in the mixture and article ≤ 500ppm; Tetrabromine, pentabromine, hexabromine, heptame and decabromodiphenyl ether in RoHS products are exempt from POPs regulations.

Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid and its derivatives (PFOS) requirements: substances and mixtures ≤ 10ppm, articles ≤ 1000ppm textiles or coated materials ≤ 1ug/m2.

Requirements for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and its salts and related substances: PFOA and its salts in substances, mixtures or articles ≤ 0.025mg/kg, and PFOA-related substances in substances, mixtures or articles ≤ 1 mg/kg.

Requirements for short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs): substances/mixtures<1%, articles<0.15%.

Requirements for hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD): the flame-retardant part of substances, mixtures, articles and articles ≤ 100mg/kg (0.01% by weight).

Pentachlorobenzene, hexachlorobenzene, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated naphthalene (PCNs), hexabromobiphenyl and hexachlorobutadiene requirements: prohibited.

Requirements for chlordane, endosulfan, hexachlorocyclohexane (including lindane), heptachlor, DDT, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, toxaphene, mirex, chlordecone, pentachlorophenol and its salts and esters, dicofol: pentachlorophenol and its salts and esters in substances, mixtures and articles ≤ 5mg/kg, other prohibited.
