What is the MSDS Chemical Safety Data Sheet? Differences between msds and SDS

MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) is the chemical safety technical specification, which can also be translated into chemical safety specification or chemical safety data sheet. It is a document for chemical manufacturers and importers to clarify the physical and chemical properties of chemicals (such as PH value, flash point, flammability, reactivity, etc.) and the possible hazards to the health of users (such as carcinogenesis, teratogenicity, etc.).

In European countries, MSDS is also known as Safety Technology/Data Sheet (SDS). The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) uses SDS terminology, while the United States, Canada, Australia and many countries in Asia use MSDS terminology.

MSDS is a comprehensive legal document on the characteristics of chemicals provided by chemical production or marketing enterprises to customers according to legal requirements. It provides 16 items, including physical and chemical parameters of chemicals, flammability and explosion properties, hazards to health, safe use and storage, leakage disposal, first aid measures and relevant laws and regulations. MSDS can be prepared by the manufacturer according to relevant rules. However, in order to ensure the accuracy and standardization of the report, you can apply to a professional organization for preparation.

Differences between msds and SDS

The European Union and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) all use the term SDS. However, in the United States, Canada, Australia and many countries in Asia, SDS (Safety Data Sheet) can also be used as MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). The role of the two technical documents is basically the same.

Our country was called CSDS in the standard GBT16483-2000 before 2008, and the revised standard GBT16483-2008 "Content and Project Sequence of Chemical Safety Data Sheet" was unified with the International Organization for Standardization, abbreviated as SDS.

The two abbreviations SDS and MSDS play the same role in the supply chain, only slightly different in content.
