What items are certified by ROSH testing? Which countries are applicable? Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2002/95/EC (abbreviated as RoHS) is an environmental protection directive (but not a law) adopted by the European Union in February 2003, which is scheduled to enter into force on July 1, 2006, mainly for product composition and engineering process standards in manufacturing.

Test items

Lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), n-butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), 2-hexyl hexyl phthalate (DEHP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP).

Applicable international

The 27 member states of the European Union: France, Federal Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania.

Labels and documents

Products within the scope of RoHS 2 directive must display the CE mark, manufacturer's name and address, and serial number or batch number. Parties who need more detailed compliance information can find relevant information in the EU declaration of conformity of products created by the manufacturer (brand owner) responsible for the design or the EU representative.

The regulation also requires most participants in the product supply chain (importers and distributors) to retain and check this document, and ensure that the compliance process is followed and the correct language translation instructions are provided.

The manufacturer must retain certain documents to prove compliance, called technical documents or technical records. The Directive requires manufacturers to use test data of all materials or comply with harmonized standards (IEC 63000:2016 is the only standard at the time of writing).

The regulatory authority may request this file, or it is more likely to obtain specific data from it, because it may be very large.
