KC certification is the new national unified logo implemented by South Korea, the safety certification system for electronic and electrical products in South Korea, and the mandatory safety certification system implemented by the Korea Institute of Technical Standards (KATS) on January 1, 2009 in accordance with the Safety Management Law for Electrical Products.

KC certification mandatory/voluntary

According to the provisions of the Korean Law on the Safety Management of Electrical Supplies, the safety certification of electrical supplies is divided into compulsory certification and self-discipline (voluntary) certification since January 1, 2009.

Compulsory certification means that all electronic products belonging to mandatory products can be sold in the Korean market only after they have obtained KC Mark certification, and they need to undergo factory review and product sampling test every year.

Self-regulatory (voluntary) certification means that all electronic products belonging to voluntary products only need to be tested to obtain certificates and do not need to be subject to factory review. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

KC certification scope

Product certification scope: electrical products with input voltage between 50-1000, including wires and cables, electrical switches, capacitors and power filters, household insulation transformers, electric tools, household appliances, electronic entertainment and information technology equipment (IT), etc. according to IECEE classification method).

KC certification factory review

First factory review: after accepting the product certification application, the factory needs to be reviewed for the first time, and the quality control system of the factory needs to be preliminarily evaluated.

Annual factory review: After the certificate is issued, the certification authority will conduct an annual follow-up review of the factory every year to review the consistency of the factory's quality control system and whether it can continuously meet the safety standards.

Sampling inspection: Up to now, there are 216 products listed in the compulsory certification scope of KC mark. The Korean safety law stipulates that all kinds of products are sampled annually, so each product is sampled once a year.

KC certification application process
