On November 25, 2022, CPSC issued new regulatory requirements 16 CFR Parts 1112 and 1261, which will enforce mandatory requirements on clothing storage cabinet products entering the U.S. market. The official effective date of this regulation is May 24, 2023.
In recent years, child casualties caused by the overturning of clothing storage cabinets have occurred frequently in the American market. CPSC has investigated typical cases in the past 20 years and issued this latest regulatory requirement.
16 CFR Parts 1112 and 1261 have a clear definition of CLOTHING STORAGE UNIT, whose control scope includes but is not limited to the following categories of cabinet products:
1. Bedside table;
2. chest of drawers;
3. chest of drawers;
4. Clothes and kitchen cabinets;
5. Clothes and kitchen cabinets;
6. Other storage cabinet products.
This regulation requires the following:
Requirements for interlocking mechanism of cabinet products;
The new concept of stability grade is added to the stability requirements of cabinet products;
Requirements for the content and posting position of permanent warning signs for cabinet products;
Requirements for label identification of performance technical parameters of cabinet products.
