The European Chemicals Administration invites interested parties to submit scientific and technical information on the manufacture, marketing, and use of perfluorinated and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by 25 September 2023.

Helsinki, March 22, 2023 - The six-month consultation on restrictions prepared by the authorities of Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden will begin on March 22, 2023, and end on September 25, 2023 (23:59 Helsinki time).

The purpose of consultation is to provide an opportunity for anyone who understands PFAS information to express their opinions. Of particular interest is information related to risks, socio-economic aspects, and alternative substances.

The Scientific Committee on Risk Assessment (RAC) and Socioeconomic Analysis (SEAC) of ECHA will use advisory opinions to evaluate and form opinions on the proposed limits.

The online information conference will be held from 11:00 to 13:00 Helsinki time on April 5th. During the meeting, experts from the European Chemicals Administration and five national authorities will explain the restriction process, the content of the proposal, and how to participate in the consultations. They will also answer questions raised by participants.

The meeting will be held in English and can be viewed directly from the ECHA homepage without registering. You can use this link to send questions to the expert group before the meeting.

Five national authorities submitted a general proposal to restrict PFAS to ECHA on January 13th. The European Commission, together with EU member States, will ultimately determine potential restrictions based on the proposal and the Commission's comments.

From March 15, 2023 to May 15, 2023, SEAC held a separate consultation for 60 days on the draft opinion on ECHA's proposal to ban the placing, use and preparation of all PFAS fire foam on the market.
