According to DutchNews.nl, citing De Telegraaf, the Netherlands will not impose a consumption tax on e-cigarette products before the November 2023 election.

The source added that even if the Netherlands obtains EU approval to levy a consumption tax on steam products, the process will take several years to complete.

Although the current government is not committed to formulating a consumption tax on e-cigarettes, Maarten van Ooijen, the junior minister of the Ministry of Health, stated that he will encourage the next cabinet to promote a "national e-cigarette tax". Van Ooijen added that such taxes would be "in the interest of public health".

In recent years, high cigarette prices have helped smokers shift towards electronic cigarette products. However, the current focus of the cabinet is to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarette and online e-cigarette products in response to the trend of increasing usage of e-cigarette products among young people.
