What does the U.S. FDA food contact material testing of cardboard include?

1. Material composition requirements: FDA stipulates that food contact materials must not contain toxic and harmful substances, such as heavy metals, harmful additives, etc. Additives and auxiliaries in materials also need to comply with relevant FDA regulations.

2. Migration amount limit: FDA has strict limits on the migration amount of food contact materials, requiring that the material content released into food under normal use conditions must not exceed the specified value.

3. Safety assessment: All food contact materials need to undergo safety assessment to ensure that they will not cause potential harm to human health during use.

4. Labeling and certification requirements: Manufacturers are required to indicate relevant information on their products, such as material composition, production date, shelf life, etc.

5. Specific test items: According to the regulations of 21 CFR 176.170 and 21 CFR 176.180, the tests required for cardboard materials include the determination of net chloroform soluble extractables, which are specifically divided into water fraction, 8% alcohol fraction, 50% alcohol fraction and n-G alkane fraction.

6. Regulatory compliance: Food contact materials need to comply with the relevant requirements of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). In particular, 21 CFR 174-186 lists the permitted uses. Food contact substances and conditions to be met.
