How to apply for EU ROHS certification for rice cookers?

Date:2024-10-29 10:41:06 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Rice cookers do need to be tested for RoHS harmful substances when exported to the EU. According to the EU RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU), rice cookers, as a small household appliance, are one of the product categories controlled by the RoHS Directive. The RoHS directive aims to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic and electrical equipment to protect the environment and human health.

When the rice cooker is tested for EU RoHS hazardous substances, the items that need to be tested include the following 10 hazardous substances:

1. Lead (Pb): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

2. Mercury (Hg): The content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

3. Cadmium (Cd): The content shall not exceed 0.01% or 100 ppm.

4. Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+): The content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

6. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

7. Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

8. Benzyl phthalate (BBP): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

9. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

10. Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): content shall not exceed 0.1% or 1000 ppm.

Process for applying for RoHS certification:

1. Fill in the application form and provide samples: First, the applicant needs to fill in the RoHS test application form and provide rice cooker samples and component lists.

2. Evaluate the testing fee: The testing agency will determine the testing fee based on the material and color of the sample provided.

3. Confirm the quotation and sign the contract: After confirming the quotation, the applicant signs a service agreement with the testing agency and pays the full project fee.

4. Sample testing: After the testing agency receives the sample, it will start RoHS testing.

5. Issue a test report: If the test passes, the testing agency will issue a RoHS test report.

6. Treatment of unsatisfactory test: If the test result is unsatisfactory, the sample needs to be rectified (such as replacing raw materials), and then retested until it passes the test.

Hazardous substances mainly restricted by RoHS certification include lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and new additions to RoHS2.0 of four phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP).

Applying for RoHS certification is an important step to ensure that rice cooker products comply with EU environmental protection requirements, which will help the product's sales and competitiveness in the EU market.
