Push and pull toys Canadian SOR/2011-17 testing steps

Date:2025-02-26 10:19:42 Classification :【question】 Visits:
The specific steps and core requirements of the Canadian SOR/2011-17 test for push-pull toys are summarized as follows in combination with regulations and testing practices:

I. Core steps of the testing process

1. Select a certification body

- A laboratory that is officially recognized by Canada and has ISO 17025 qualifications (such as Dezewei Testing, etc.) must be selected.

2. Sample preparation and submission

- Provide a complete sample of push-pull toys (including packaging and accessories), and separate components of different materials (such as plastic handles, metal connectors, etc.).

- Submit technical information: design drawings, material lists (metal, plastic, coating and other components must be marked).

3. Testing items and requirements

- Mechanical and physical properties

- Structural stability: simulate push-pull actions, and test whether the components are loose or fall off (such as handles, axles, etc.).

- Handle protection head test: The handle end with a diameter of ≤10mm must be equipped with a protection head, and it can withstand a pulling force of 44.5N without falling off.

- Edge treatment: Check whether the exposed metal or plastic edges are smooth to avoid cuts (sharp edge test is required).

- Chemical safety performance

- Surface coating: lead content ≤90mg/kg, mercury content ≤10mg/kg (according to SOR/2016-193).

- Phthalates: DEHP, DBP, BBP ≤1000mg/kg (if containing vinyl materials).

- Packaging requirements

- If the packaging uses a soft film plastic bag and the opening circumference is less than 35.3cm, the thickness must be ≥0.019mm and marked with Chinese, English/French suffocation warnings.

4. Test cycle and report

- The regular test cycle is 5-7 working days, which may be extended for complex projects.

- After passing the test, the laboratory will issue a Chinese and English report, which must include the test method, limit comparison and compliance conclusion.

2. Key testing requirements (special for push-pull toys)

1. Safety of handles and connectors

- The handle diameter of push-pull toys must meet the size limit, and the end protection head must pass the tensile test.

- Connecting parts (such as axles and screws) must be firmly installed to avoid looseness and the risk of pinching.

2. Prevention of accidental swallowing of small parts

- For push-pull toys for children under 3 years old, detachable parts must pass the small parts test (not fully loaded into the small parts measuring cylinder).

3. Material compliance

- Metal parts must meet the lead content requirements (lead ≤90mg/kg when in contact with the mouth during normal use).

3. Precautions

1. Regulatory dynamics

- Canada continues to update toy safety requirements (such as the addition of phthalate DINP restrictions in 2023), and regulations need to be checked regularly.

2. Sample splitting

- Non-metallic materials such as coatings, plastics, and rubber need to be tested separately, and metal parts can be exempted from chemical testing if they do not need to contact the mouth.

3. Labeling standards

- Products must be labeled with applicable age, manufacturer information, and warning labels must be in English and French.

After the test is completed, the report can be used for Canadian market access and customs clearance to ensure that the product is legally sold.
