Electronic Toys Australia AS/NZS8124 Testing Process

Date:2025-03-06 09:53:15 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Electronic toys exported to Australia must pass the AS/NZS 8124 standard test to ensure that they meet the mechanical, physical, chemical and electrical safety requirements. The following is the specific process and key information, which is compiled from multiple sources as follows:

I. Overview of the testing process

1. Select a certification body

- You need to select a laboratory accredited by JAS-ANZ (Joint Australian and New Zealand Accreditation System), such as Dezewei Testing.

- Confirm that the agency supports AS/NZS 62115 electrical safety testing (additional requirements for electronic toys).

2. Material preparation

- Mandatory documents:

- Product samples: 3 main test models + 1 spare model (including complete packaging);

- Product manual (marked with applicable age and warning);

- Material list (including material supplier and CAS number);

- Design drawings, BOM (parts list).

- Supplementary information: production process flow, electrical parameter description (such as battery type, voltage).

3. Testing and evaluation

- Test grouping:

- Age determination: Children under 3 years old need to pass the small parts choking test, and children aged 3-14 years old need to pass the mechanical strength test.

- Test items:

- Mechanical/physical properties: small parts, sharp edges, wire strength, projectile safety, etc.;

- Chemical properties: heavy metal migration (lead, cadmium, etc.);

- Electrical safety: battery overcharge/short circuit test, insulation (must comply with AS/NZS 62115);

- Combustion performance: material flame retardancy test.

- Test cycle: 5-7 working days for routine projects, and complex tests (such as battery safety) are extended to 10 days.

4. Report review and certification acquisition

- After passing the test, an AS/NZS 8124 compliance certificate (valid for 3 years) will be issued. The report must include age groups and rectification suggestions for non-conforming items.

- Electronic or paper reports can be used for customs clearance and market access.

5. Subsequent maintenance

- Annual sampling: 10% of products need to be submitted for surveillance testing each year, and material changes require recertification.

- Regulatory updates: If the AS/NZS standard is revised (such as adding new restricted substances), re-evaluation is required.

II. Key points

1. Label and instruction requirements

- Products need to be marked with:

- "AS/NZS ISO 8124 Compliant" logo;

- Age warning (such as "Not suitable for children under 3 years").

- The instruction manual must clearly state the usage scenario and charging specifications (for electronic toys).

2. Cost and cycle optimization

- Cycle 5-7 days

3. Target market differences

- If exported to New Zealand at the same time, the process is the same as Australia; if it needs to cover the EU or the United States, it is necessary to comply with EN 62115 or ASTM F963 standards.
