Food contact materials (FCMs) are materials that will come into contact with food under normal or foreseeable use, and are not themselves part of the food product.
I. Components of a Range Hood Requiring GB4806 Testing
Components of a range hood that come into direct or indirect contact with food require testing for their corresponding food contact materials. These mainly include:
1. Oil collection cup/drip tray: Commonly made of plastic or stainless steel, requiring testing according to GB4806.7 or GB4806.9 respectively.
2. Fan/wind guide ring: Mostly made of metal, requiring heavy metal leaching testing according to GB4806.9.
3. Oil filter: Made of stainless steel or iron, requiring testing according to GB4806.9.
4. Sealing ring/rubber gasket: Made of silicone or rubber, requiring testing for volatile organic compounds and plasticizers according to GB4806.11.
5. Inner wall coating: Classified as food contact coatings, requiring testing according to GB4806.10.
II. Testing Items and Standard Requirements
General Mandatory Inspection Items
1. Migration Test: Simulating the daily use environment of a range hood, the test measures the content of harmful substances leached from the material at high temperatures of 70-100℃. The results must be lower than the national standard limits.
2. Material Safety: The use of toxic raw materials is prohibited. For example, prohibited plasticizers cannot be added to plastic parts, and inferior base materials with high heavy metal content cannot be used for metal parts.
3. Labeling Requirements: Products must be labeled "food contact + material," for example, "food contact 304 stainless steel oil collection cup."
Specific Material Testing:
1. Plastic Parts (Oil Collection Cup, etc.)
The testing focuses on plasticizer migration and bisphenol A residue, which must meet the relevant limits of GB4806.7.
2. Metal Parts (Impeller, Oil Screen)
The leaching of heavy metals such as lead and nickel is tested, and the leaching limits must comply with the heavy metal leaching limits of GB4806.9.
3. Rubber/Silicone Parts (Sealing Rings)
The volatile organic compounds and plasticizer content are tested to ensure compliance with the provisions of GB4806.11.
4. Interior Coating
Adhesion, corrosion resistance, and hazardous substance migration tests are required, meeting the coating safety requirements of GB4806.10.
III. Processing Procedure
1. Consultation and Information Provision: Submit a list of product components (DEZEW Testing CNAS registration number: L8083), material specifications, product images, etc., to a third-party testing organization with CMA and CNAS accreditation, specifying the specific components requiring testing.
2. Quotation and Payment: The testing organization will assess the required testing standards and items and issue a quotation. After confirmation, an agreement will be signed and payment made.
3. Sample Submission and Testing: Complete the testing application form and mail the corresponding component samples to the laboratory. The testing cycle is 4-5 working days.
4. Report Issuance: After completing all tests, the laboratory will issue a draft report. The official test report will be issued after confirmation of accuracy.
IV. Enterprise Compliance Requirements
Manufacturers of range hoods must complete GB4806 testing and obtain a passing report for all food-contact components before selling them on the market. This ensures compliant sales and avoids penalties from market regulators. Consumers can request GB4806 test reports for the corresponding components from retailers when purchasing range hoods to ensure product safety meets national standards.
