What is halogen testing? Halogen use standard

Halogens include fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I) and astatine (At), which exist in the VIIA family of the periodic table of chemical and physical elements. After the combustion of halogen compounds, including electronic waste and plastic products, it may easily produce the so-called century toxic dioxin like compounds, which are harmful to health through the accumulation of organisms.

What is halogen testing?

Halogen ingredients are mainly related to green initiatives in the EU market, which are aimed at non environmental substances and are usually of obvious danger. With regard to halogen content, especially chlorine, fluorine, bromine, iodine and astatine elements, it is used in the production of plastics and electronic products, such as PVC and Teflon. During the manufacturing process, halogens are usually added to the components to ensure that the products can withstand high temperatures and flames. However, these are salifying compounds with high activity and low melting point. For example, fluorine is a gas with high reactivity and is used as refrigerant, aerosol spray, rocket fuel and toothpaste. Chlorine is commonly used to clean swimming pools, as well as as bleach and disinfectant. It is also used for electronic components, if ignited, it will produce toxic gases. Iodine is used in halogen lamps to prolong the service life of the filament. Bromine is used for flameproof, insecticide and paint. Chalone is also highly unstable and radioactive.

Limit requirements for halogens

Based on IEC 61249-2-21:2003. According to IEC standards, the limits on halogens only apply to chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br) and their compounds. No other halogens (fluorine, iodine, astatine) are regulated.

Halogen use standard

According to the limited use standard of halogen described by the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC 61249-2-21), the compound must contain no more than 900 ppm chlorine or bromine/million, and also contain less than 1500 ppm total halogen.
