What are the EU packaging requirements? What is the definition of packaging?

Date:2023-02-03 10:20:29 Classification :【question】 Visits:

The inspection of packaging instructions is based on the requirements of environment and life safety, and the rational use of energy and resources. It puts forward corresponding requirements and objectives for all links of packaging and packaging materials, packaging management, design, production, circulation, use and consumption.

Packaging materials are often discarded arbitrarily by consumers after use, and then into the environmental soil. The hazardous substances contained in them will directly harm the environment. Therefore, countries all over the world attach great importance to the control of packaging materials, such as the European Parliament and Council Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste Disposal of the European Union (EU), which provides for "restriction of hazardous substances", "repeatability", "renewable utilization", "containing recycled materials" and other packaging regulations.

Packaging definition

Packaging is all products made of any material of any nature and used for container, protection, handling, transportation and display of goods. From raw materials to processed goods, from producers to users or consumers. "Non returnable" items (used for the same purpose) shall also be considered as component packaging.

"Package" only includes

1. Sales packaging or basic packaging, that is, packaging is a part of the sales unit purchased by users or consumers.

2. Combined packaging or second packaging, that is, packaging is used to group a certain number of sales units during sales, regardless of whether they will be sold to users or consumers, or only as a means of replenishing shelves at the time of sales; Packaging can be removed from the product without affecting its characteristics.

3. Transportation packaging or the third packaging, that is, packaging is used to facilitate the handling and transportation of several sales units or combination packaging to prevent actual handling and transportation losses. Transportation packaging does not include road, railway, ship and aviation containers.

The packaging directive covers all packaging and all packaging waste put into the EU, regardless of whether it is applied or discarded in industry, commerce, office, shop, service, home or any other scope, and has nothing to do with the materials used.

Test object

Product packaging carton, carton, wooden frame, film box, plastic bag, bubble bag, foam, Polylon, fixed appliance, sheet, rope, paint, ink, tape, adhesive, cable tie, label, etc.

Controlled substances and limits

The maximum concentration limit of the four major heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium) specified in the EU Packaging Materials Directive: lead (Pb)+cadmium (Cd)+mercury (Hg)+hexavalent chromium (Cr+6)<100ppm.

From June 30, 2001, the total amount of lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and mercury contained in all packaging and packaging components cannot exceed 100 ppm. The packaging components are the smallest part of the package and can be easily separated by hand.
