On June 10, 2022, Helsinki time, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced a new batch of substances of very high concern (SVHC), and the SVHC list was officially updated to 224 items.
The newly added SVHC substances are as follows:
Substance name: N-(Methylol)acrylamide
N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide
EC number: 213-103-2
CAS Number: 924-42-5
Reason for listing: carcinogenicity; teratogenicity
Common Uses: As a polymerized monomer; in paints and coatings.
If an article contains N-(methylol)acrylamide, the manufacturer or importer of the article is obliged to complete the notification to ECHA within 6 months after June 10, 2022.
In this regard, Dezewei reminds the majority of enterprises to carry out the latest SVHC confirmation on products exported to Europe in order to fulfill the compliance obligations of the EU REACH regulation.
According to EU REACH regulations:
If the content of SVHC in all products exceeds 0.1%, it must be explained to the downstream:
If the SVHC content in substances and preparations exceeds 0.1%, SDS in compliance with EU REACH regulations must be passed downstream;
Articles containing more than 0.1% SVHC must transmit downstream instructions for safe use, including at least the name of the SVHC. Consumers can also make similar requests, and suppliers should provide relevant information free of charge within 45 days;
When the SVHC content in the article exceeds 0.1% and the export exceeds 1 ton per year, EU manufacturers, importers or only representatives must also submit SVHC notifications to ECHA. If it is a new SVHC substance, the notification obligation must be completed within 6 months after the substance is added to the SVHC list.
In addition, from January 5, 2021, products exported to Europe containing more than 0.1% of SVHC substances must complete SCIP notification before they can be put on the market.
