On June 24, 2022, Standards Australia published AS 2088:2022 "Prams - Safety requirements", which supersedes the older version AS/NZS 2088:2013. This standard is an Australian Standard, not an Australian/New Zealand Standard.
Compared with AS/NZS 2088:2013, the main changes are as follows:
Expanded product range: includes convertible trolleys and other sitting trolleys;
Add the relevant definition of locking mechanism;
Clearly accessible areas for children;
Expanded finger entrapment hazard requirements to include specific sized holes;
Added requirements for parking operating devices for carts with reversible handlebars;
Added stability test configuration;
A new method for measuring the inclination angle of seat and backrest is added;
Amendment of requirements for locking mechanisms;
Added requirements for product packaging;
Revised warnings in products and instructions.
The ACCC is considering updating the decree Consumer Protection Notice No 8 of 2007 (CPN NO.8 for short), but as of now CPN NO.8 is still the currently valid mandatory decree. For baby strollers exported to Australia, manufacturers should ensure that the products meet the requirements of CPN NO.8 and AS 2088:2022.
