ECHA added nine hazardous chemicals to the candidate list

Date:2023-01-30 13:56:15 Classification :【Statute】 Visits:
The candidate list of substances of high concern now contains 233 chemical items that may endanger human beings or the environment. The company has the responsibility to manage the risks of these chemicals, and must also provide its customers and consumers with information on the safe use of these chemicals.

Helsinki, January 17, 2023 - The European Chemical Administration (ECHA) has added nine chemicals to the candidate list because of their hazardous properties. For example, they are used in the manufacture of flame retardants, paints and coatings, inks and toners, paint products, plasticizers, and pulp and paper.

Items added to the candidate list on January 17, 2023:

The ECHA Member States Committee confirmed that these substances would be added to the candidate list. The candidate list now has 233 entries - some are chemical groups, so the total number of affected chemicals is higher.

These substances may be included in the authorization list in the future. If a substance is on the list, its use will be prohibited unless the company applies for authorization and the European Commission authorizes them to continue using it.

Consequences of the list of candidates

According to REACH, when the company's substance is included in the candidate list, the company has legal obligations - whether it is alone, in a mixture or in an article.

Suppliers of items containing more than 0.1% (weight ratio) of substances in the candidate list must provide information to their customers and consumers so that they can be used safely. Consumers have the right to ask suppliers whether the products they buy contain substances of high concern.

If the article contains a candidate list substance, the importer and producer of the article must notify ECHA within six months after the date of listing (January 17, 2023). Suppliers of substances on the candidate list, whether supplied separately or in the form of mixtures, must provide their customers with safety data sheets.

According to the Waste Framework Directive, if the articles produced by the company contain substances of high concern with a concentration of more than 0.1% (weight), the company must also notify ECHA. This notice is published in ECHA's Substance of Concern in Products Database (SCIP).
