Starting from July 1st, the "mandatory national standard" for electric bicycle chargers and helmets will be officially implemented! Electric bicycle chargers, the "mandatory national standard" has been introduced.


On July 1, 2023, GB42296-2022 "Safety Technical Requirements for Electric Bicycle Chargers" (hereinafter referred to as the standard) was officially implemented.



This standard is also issued and implemented simultaneously with another mandatory national standard GB 42295-2022 "Electrical Safety Requirements for Electric Bicycles", and the two standards cooperate and coordinate with each other.


The launch of this standard is expected to unify the charging interface of electric bicycles, changing the confusion of charging interfaces in the past and standardizing charging interfaces.


According to the Safety Technical Requirements for Chargers for Electric Bicycles, since the voltage and charging algorithm of Lead–acid battery and lithium-ion batteries are completely different, the new national standard has designed two plug forms, which are physically not universal to avoid misuse. The Lead–acid battery plug adopts the form of two power pins and two communication pins (2+2), while the lithium-ion battery adopts the form of two power pins and four communication pins (2+4).


The national standard for the new national standard charger for electric vehicles mainly has two requirements:

(1) The charging port should uniformly comply with national standards.

(2) Must meet EMC standards and have delay protection.

Compulsory use of "communication protocol" for charging



The Safety Technical Requirements for Chargers for Electric Bicycles refers to the practice of unified physical interface and different unified modes between mobile phones and new energy vehicles.

Article 5.5.5 stipulates that the charger and the charged battery pack (system) shall have a mutual recognition and cooperation agreement. Lithium ion battery pack chargers or other battery pack chargers should first mutually recognize and collaborate with the charged battery pack (system) to confirm the technical parameters of the battery pack before starting charging.

*In this regulation, after the charger plug is inserted into the electric bicycle charging jack, the communication cable core first attempts to communicate and shake hands, and only charges the battery when the voltage meets the requirements, reducing or even eliminating safety hazards caused by voltage and other reasons, and avoiding or reducing the occurrence of fires, electric shocks, etc.

Mandatory National Standards

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the "Motorcycle and Electric Bicycle Passenger Helmets" (GB 811-2022, hereinafter referred to as the new standard) will be implemented from July 1st.


The new standard has strict regulations on the stability of fixed devices, the strength of wearing devices, the absorption of collision energy, penetration resistance, and goggles. It is the first mandatory national standard in the field of electric bicycle passenger helmets.

The quality of helmets is closely related to personal safety.
