Plastic EU REACH testing items and processes

Date:2024-11-21 10:26:47 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Plastic products need to undergo REACH testing when exported to the EU to ensure that they comply with the EU's chemical safety requirements. The following are the main testing items and processes for plastic products when undergoing EU REACH testing:

Test items

1. Physical and chemical property testing: including testing of physical and chemical properties such as density, melting point, boiling point, flash point, viscosity, etc., as well as relative density, ignition point, autoignition temperature, etc.

2. Toxicological testing: involving testing of toxicological indicators such as acute toxicity, chronic toxicity, irritation, and allergy, to evaluate the potential impact of plastic products on human health.

3. Ecotoxicological testing: including environmental toxicological testing such as environmental persistence, bioaccumulation, and biodegradability to evaluate the potential impact of plastic products on the environment.

4. Analytical method testing: It may involve testing of analytical methods such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) to determine specific chemical substances or components in plastic products.

5. Specific substance testing: According to the SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) list in the REACH regulation, these harmful substances in plastic products are tested to ensure that their content is lower than the limit specified by the regulation.

6. Detection of polymer materials: Detection of chemical composition and physical properties of polymer materials of plastic products.

7. Testing of additives: Plasticizers, flame retardants and other additives that may be contained in plastics need to be tested to assess their potential impact on health and the environment.

8. Detection of heavy metals: Heavy metal elements such as lead and cadmium that may be contained in plastic products need to be detected to ensure that their content meets the prescribed standards.

Testing process

1. Fill in the REACH application form: The testing agency provides the application form.

2. Provide a product bill of materials (BOM): a detailed list of all materials used in the product.

3. Determine the testing fee based on the materials provided: The testing staff determines the testing fees based on the materials provided.

4. Sign the contract, pay the fee, and prepare test samples: After confirming the quotation, sign the contract, pay the fee, and prepare test samples.

5. After completing the test, the engineer will sort out the data and issue a REACH test report: After the test is completed, the engineer will sort out the data and issue a REACH test report.

6. After the report is completed, a paper report will be mailed or an electronic version of the report will be sent to the applicant: After the report is completed, a paper report will be mailed or an electronic version of the report will be sent to the applicant.

Through these testing items and processes, we can ensure that plastic products comply with the requirements of the EU REACH regulations and protect human health and environmental safety.
