ROHS is the abbreviation of Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation. Its main purpose is to restrict the use of certain hazardous components in electronic and electrical equipment.
The ten items of EU electronic and electrical CE-ROHS testing mainly include restrictions on the following substances:
1. Lead (Pb): The content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%). It mainly exists in solder, glass, PVC stabilizer and other materials.
2. Cadmium (Cd): The content shall not exceed 100ppm (0.01%). It is usually used in switches, springs, connectors, casings, PCBs and batteries, etc.
3. Mercury (Hg): The content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%), mainly found in components such as thermostats, sensors, switches and light bulbs.
4. Hexavalent chromium (Cr VI): The content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%), mainly found in metal anti-corrosion coatings.
5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs): The content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%). It is a brominated flame retardant.
6. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs): The content must not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%). It is also a brominated flame retardant.
7. Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): The content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%), used as a plasticizer for PVC.
8. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%), used in PVC parts and non-polymer products such as paints, adhesives, etc.
9. Butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP): content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%), mainly used as PVC plasticizer.
10. Dihexyl phthalate (DEHP): The content shall not exceed 1000ppm (0.1%). It is also a type of PVC plasticizer.
These testing projects were established by the European Union to restrict the use of harmful substances in electronic and electrical products to protect the environment and human health. Metal testing typically includes the first four items, while non-metal testing includes all ten.
