European Union EN71 testing guidelines for child seats

Date:2024-05-06 10:21:08 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Child seats need to undergo EU EN71 testing. EN71 is the collective name for European toy safety standards. Its full name is the EN71 series of standards, which ensures that toys comply with safety standards in terms of physical and mechanical properties, flammability, chemical substances, electrical properties, etc. As a product that may come into direct contact with children, the safety of child seats is of utmost importance.

EU EN71 testing guide for child seats:
1. Understand the EN71 standard:
EN71 is the European safety standard for toys, but as a product closely related to child safety, child seats also need to comply with this standard.
Be familiar with various parts of the EN71 standard, especially those related to child seats, such as EN71-1 (physical and mechanical properties), EN71-2 (flammability properties), EN71-3 (migration of specific elements), etc.
2. Select the certification body:
The EU does not mandate EN71 certification through a specific certification body, but manufacturers can find these certification bodies on the EU's official website.
Choose an experienced and qualified certification agency to work with.
3. Submit application and samples:
Submit a detailed application to the selected certification body, including detailed technical specifications of the child seat, description of the manufacturing process and other information.
Provide a sufficient number of child seat samples for testing in accordance with the requirements of the testing agency.
4. Testing and evaluation:
The certification body conducts comprehensive testing and evaluation of submitted samples. This includes testing of child seats’ physical and mechanical properties, flammability, chemical content and more.
If the sample does not meet the EN71 standard in any aspect, the manufacturer needs to make the necessary modifications and resubmit the sample.
5. Issue certificate:
If the child seat sample passes all tests and evaluations, the certification body will issue an EN71 certification to the manufacturer. This certificate indicates that the manufacturer's child seat meets EU toy safety standards and can be sold on the EU market.
6. Continuous supervision:
Obtaining EN71 certification does not mean that manufacturers can relax control over the quality of child seats. Manufacturers need to continuously ensure the quality and safety of their products to comply with the requirements of the EN71 standard.
7. Things to note:
Throughout the entire testing and certification process, maintain close communication and cooperation with the certification body to ensure that all steps are carried out as required.
Comply with relevant EU regulations and standards to ensure the safety and compliance of child seats.
