Steps for EU RoHS testing of PC electronic boards

Date:2024-11-15 11:08:19 Classification :【question】 Visits:
PC electronic boards (i.e. polycarbonate electronic boards), as part of electronic and electrical equipment, need to undergo RoHS testing when exported to the EU market to ensure that they comply with the EU directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances. The following are detailed answers about EU RoHS testing of PC electronic boards:

1. Specific requirements for RoHS testing

1. Restricted substances: RoHS testing mainly focuses on the content of harmful substances such as lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) . In addition, according to the requirements of RoHS 2.0, di(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) have also been added ) and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP).

2. Maximum concentration limit: For the above restricted substances, the RoHS Directive stipulates the maximum allowable concentration in electronic and electrical equipment. For example, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and PBB and PBDE are all limited to a concentration of 0.1% (1000ppm), while cadmium is limited to a concentration of 0.01% (100ppm).

2. Steps for EU RoHS testing of PC electronic boards

1. Application and preparation:

Manufacturers need to submit a RoHS testing application to the testing agency and provide necessary information, such as product instructions, material composition lists, etc.

Prepare PC electronic board samples to be tested and ensure their representativeness.

2. Detection methods and selection:

The testing agency will select the appropriate testing method based on the material and characteristics of the PC electronic board. Common detection methods include XRF scanning, chemical analysis testing methods, etc.

XRF scanning can quickly detect elemental content in a sample, while chemical analysis testing methods can more accurately determine the content of specific harmful substances.

3. Sample testing:

The testing agency will split the PC electronic board samples to separate different materials for testing.

According to the selected detection method, samples are pretreated and analyzed for measurement.

4. Results evaluation and reporting:

The testing agency will evaluate whether the content of restricted substances in PC electronic boards meets the requirements of the RoHS directive based on the experimental results.

If the product passes the test, the testing agency will issue a RoHS test report to prove that the product meets the EU's environmental requirements.

If the product fails the test, the manufacturer needs to rectify the sample and retest it until it passes the test.
