Since January 27, 2023, the California Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Office (Oehha) has included 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (CAS No. 109-70-6), 1-butyl glycidyl ether (CAS No. 2426-08-6), 2-methyl-2-acrylate (CAS No. 106-91-2) in the list of carcinogens under Proposition 65. The exposure warning requirements for these chemicals will take effect on January 27, 2024.
List of new substances:
According to the sufficient evidence of animal carcinogenicity in the experiment of IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer), 1-bromo-3-chloropropane and butoxymethyloxirane may be carcinogenic to humans (Category 2B carcinogen). 2-methyl-2-acrylic epoxyethanyl methyl ester shows the key characteristics of carcinogenesis in human initial cells, and is likely to cause cancer to humans (class 2A carcinogen).
The California Proposition 65 list was first published in 1987, and now covers nearly 1000 chemical substances, and is updated at least once a year. This is the first update in 2023.
