What is the EU REACH-SVHC certification?

Date:2023-05-24 10:12:47 Classification :【question】 Visits:
What is the EU REACH-SVHC certification? REACH is a chemical regulation of the European Union, known as Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals. Under the REACH framework, EU member states and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries require suppliers to register, evaluate and authorize chemical substances before selling them on the market. SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) refers to substances of extreme concern, which pose potential hazards to human health and the environment.

Therefore, REACH SVHC certification refers to the REACH certification of a chemical substance and the simultaneous evaluation of whether it belongs to substances of extreme concern (SVHC). If so, corresponding restrictions or authorizations are required to ensure human health and environmental safety. REACH-SVHC certification also requires suppliers to provide corresponding information to distributors and end users to avoid damage to consumers due to the use of products containing harmful chemicals.

According to Chapter 57 of the REACH Regulation of the European Union, the European Chemicals Administration (ECHA) will determine substances that may be added to the "candidate list" of authorized substances. The substances on this "candidate list" are also known as "high concern substances", and SVHC is the acronym for "Substance of Very High Concern". Substances with the following characteristics may be listed as SVHC:

1. Carcinogenicity, Mutagenicity, and Reproductive Toxicity

2. Persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity

3. High persistence, high bioaccumulation

4. Substances with equivalent effects (such as endocrine disruptors)

The 21st public consultation by the European Chemical Administration (ECHA) on the list of substances of high concern for SVHCs has proposed adding three more substances to the SVHCs list. As of April 29, 2019, if the three proposed substances are ultimately identified as SVHCs, it is possible that 201 substances will be tested on the SVHCs list of substances of high concern in July this year. Additionally, it is important to note that tert butylphenol 4-tert butylphenols, It has been recognized as SVHC by the European Union.

The Relationship between REACH Authentication and SVHC Detection

In short, before REACH registration, SVHC was a substance list, so third-party testing agencies usually referred to REACH testing as highly concerned substance SVHC testing. Testing agencies will test the product based on the EU's annual updated SVHC list, and the number of REACH testing items is increasing.

REACH certification requirements

The main content of REACH certification is to prove that daily products do not contain harmful chemicals. Therefore, daily products produced by the EU or entering the EU market mainly refer to textiles, which must undergo registration, inspection, and approval of harmful chemical substance content. If the content exceeds the standard, it cannot be sold in the EU market.
