China, the United States, Canada, and international requirements for MSDS

Date:2023-08-03 15:08:51 Classification :【question】 Visits:
The requirements for MSDS in China, the United States, Canada, and other countries, such as the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), can be abbreviated as SDS. It is a data sheet used by manufacturers and importers to elucidate the physical and chemical characteristics of products that may pose hazards to users. The MSDS describes the toxicity, hazards, and environmental impact assessment of the chemicals included in the product. Introduce the precautions and emergency response methods for the production, use, storage, and transportation of products. Reducing the probability of accidents and the losses caused by accidents has become a safety management system.

1、 MSDS generally includes the following content:

1. Material product name and manufacturer contact information;

2. The chemical composition of the product;

3. Hazard description;

4. First aid measures;

5. Fire protection measures;

6. Leakage disposal measures;

7. Handling and storage;

8. Exposure and personal protection;

9. Physical and chemical properties;

10. Chemical stability;

11. Toxicity

12. Ecological Information

13. Disposal methods

14. Transportation

15. Regulatory standards

16. Other Information

The above sixteen items are the internationally recognized MSDS versions.

MSDS, product testing reports, and production technical specifications are equally important materials for the transmission of supply chain information in product production. There are specific provisions for MSDS in the EU REACH system (Annex II). MSDS is one of the necessary technical information for exporting products.

2、 The necessity of MSDS:

1. MSDS is not designed for hazardous chemical substances. For example, LDPE, SiO2. alloy materials, and food contact materials all require MSDS.

2. MSDS is listed as a part of supplier quality control and plays a certain role in safety production. Generally, MSDS for storing hazardous materials should be posted in hazardous material warehouses in factories.

3. MSDS is based on the evaluation of chemical substances in the product. The safety data of raw materials that undergo chemical changes during the production process need to be re evaluated based on the MSDS of the raw materials and the actual product performance. For example, the glue used in the production process of leather shoes has certain hazards and dangers when it is liquid before use. After bonding, the solidification hazard and danger are reduced, and the chemical properties change.

4. The safety needs to be reassessed when the proportion of MSDS substances changes. For example: paint thinner. Composed of compounds such as acetone, toluene, and petroleum hydrocarbons, although physically mixed, the chemical properties should also be re evaluated.

If it only involves manual packaging and assembly (without chemical changes), customers can collect MSDS of raw materials into a book.

3、 The professionalism of MSDS

Countries around the world, such as the United States, Canada, and others, have fixed requirements for the MSDS of goods.

MSDS required by OSHA in the United States

First item: Manufacturer and contact information

Item 2: Hazardous chemical components

Third item: Physical and chemical properties

Fourth item: combustion and explosion data

Item 5: Reactivity data

Item 6: Health Hazard Data

Item 7: Safe operation and usage methods

Item 8: Protection Methods

Canadian WHMIS requirements

Item 1: Product name and manufacturer information

Item 2: Hazardous chemical components

Third item: Physical properties

Fourth item: Fire protection or explosion data

Item 5: Reactivity data

Item 6: Toxicological characteristics

Item 7: Preventive Measures

Item 8: First Aid Methods

Item 9: Preparation Information

The text description used in MSDS is a fixed statement, and the rating of hazardous and toxic substances used is also fixed. The identification of hazardous, toxic, harmful, and protective conditions used is also fixed. This is because as a national customs and chemical management department, it is easy to manage. They have established a standardized database. After authorization and purchase, it can be queried for MSDS production of corresponding products.

The cost of MSDS is usually around 500 yuan, which takes 3 working days.
